What’s up Skate Fam! Welcome to the community. Thrilled to have you here. Take a sec to introduce yourself, doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated. Just be yourself. …ill go first. 👋🏽My name is Knejie Allen. I’ve been skating for 10 years. Currently rolling in custom Riedell 3200s w and arius plate and probably some slick wheels (95A+). @Ben Fillmore have you bitten the bullet and decided to purchase your own skates yet?
Wheel question.
I changed out my sonar 85a to sure grip boardwalk 65’s. Does anyone have these? If yes how do you like them for pavement outside. What wheels do you use for outside pavement? I put my skates on today and they were quite slippery so I’m curious if anyone has these. *I bought them based on one of dirty Deborah Harry’s tutorials bc outside skating is a little more accessible to me. Thank you in advance

@Josie Torres you went from an 85a wheel to a 78a wheel outside and are describing them as feeling more slippery. I've seen others describe that as well, which I initially thought was unusual because you're going from a harder more slippery wheel to a softer and stickier one. The harder wheels will feel more bumpy, more vibration, louder. The softer wheels will feel smoother, quieter. I think what's happening is that your body is interpreting the smoother ride as "slippery"... Those 78a wheels actually have more grip than your previous set. You will notice it more if you try skating on hardwood with them, you won't be able to slide or slip the wheels across the ground in any direction except forward and backward. You can still work on edges and carving, but things like crabs and pivots, you definitely have to exaggerate the heel/toe lifts off the ground. I have those 78a wheels and find them great for trail skating outdoors, but not for dance skating outdoors. For dance skating I still prefer a harder wheel, even outdoors.

@Josie Torres that's just my preference, to use those 78s for trails and the street. Ultimately, I think it's cool to try different wheels and find what works for you and what you like best.... The downside is that you end up with a lot of wheels, and some you end up liking more than others, and they're such a niche thing to sell off used.
First day on new skates!
Got to the rink today to finally put miles on my new skates. Even got my sister to drive 2 and a half hours to go. We had a blast. What a difference good skates make. I don’t know what you call it but for the first time in my life I was able to do the kinda bouncy leg cross one leg and heel half moon thing. I’m sure it has a name. I wasn’t very fast but I was able to bop around to the music. We had a blast and even though we are in our forties we did engage in a highly competitive tag which brought us back to our elementary school skate days. And as competitive siblings I must mention there was one fall and it wasn’t me!!!!!! She was trying to jump over a painted line to one up me and she one downed herself. Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far. I have to make the journey to Pittsburgh Monday and hoping to hit up Wicked skatewear for some outdoor wheels.

That's awesome! Glad you got to spend some quality time on wheels with your sister. Falling is part of the game though, no points lost to her for that 😄
Keeping social media in perspective.
I know you never get to see the hours others put into skating to get as good as they are online. Tough to not compare yourself when you've been out here 6-8 hours a week for 2 years and can't do half the things they are doing. Guess we gotta lock in the training lol.

@Albert Schepis Volume up on the music definitely changes the video experience. I'm just falling into a rabbit hole now, but here's some ballroom style you might enjoy https://www.instagram.com/reel/DW6vL1ujnil/?igsh=bWt1dXJ0cGtlMWc3
Recommendations 4 Skates?
Hi, I am just getting into rollerskating. I am confused on what type of skates to get for myself. The skating rink I go to only goes up to a size 13 and sadly I wear a size 15. I was recommended to buy some SureGrip GT50 skates. Are there any other (if better) skates I should get before confirming the purchase?

https://roller.riedellskates.com/Product/set-120-Juice Good for recreational skating. These also can be made in size 15, though it sounds like there would be an additional fee, and they can be pricey, not sure what your budget is. Highly suggest getting accurate measurements of your feet and contacting them about a custom size. Your measurements will help for various brands, as they all size differently, so knowing those numbers is the first step, length and width. If you have a skate shop nearby , even an ice skate shop, you can get a professional fitting and they might have some boot recommendations.
