Yeah, those are some new moves! The turn out is work for sure, and that's good to practice it nice and easy in the house - give the ligaments time to stretch. I forgot how old I am and tried working it too hard, too soon at speed down my street and tweaked a knee - been paying for it since. I like your videos Marisa!
Exercises
what are the best stretches & exercises to do before skating?

Great question "R"! I've pondered that myself. I took an exercise class in college (a long time ago) that was fairly sciency; from what I recall there are 3 parts to it: cardio, strength and flexibility. Also warm up, work it, cool down. Those are the basic aspects. I'd suggest do basic warm up and stretching, go skate for an hour or two, then whatever feels like it needs work, concentrate on that before next time, and give a day or so to recover. Skating itself is great exercise. Nutritionally I'm doing creatine before, protein after, and B12 every day.

@Aleeta Powe I did that too most of last year! I'd go grab the fence in my front yard and do a bunch of squats, then stretch legs forward and back, arms, twist the body, side lunges and I never pulled a muscle skating. Pulled an MCL though, but I'm 71 and shoulda seen that coming. But yeah, the squats got the blood pumping for sure. Oh, and I have an elliptical machine I jump on for a bit, the days I don't skate. Wait, I remember, I took a ski conditioning class. We did a lot of lunges, too.
So much for skating... now what?
(This IS a win - you'll see). I've been skating at local basketball & tennis courts since last May no problem. People (including parks employees) have smiled and encouraged me, even said they like watching, I've never been in anyone's way nor done any harm, nor has my benign activity encouraged any other skaters to "invade" the courts... I can't GET anyone to join me. You probably see where this is going... some guy, a belligerent bully didn't just suggest maybe I should reconsider (as I attempted to skate on an empty tennis court) - he just hauled off and started threatening me and told me to leave immediately, shouting I was "going to ruin it for everyone!" I politely said I'd been skating there for almost a year no problem, done no harm, no one's said a word until that moment, but it only made him more insistent, loud and threatening, throwing in lots of "bros", etc. I left as he and his friends laughed, having won their little battle, defeating my attempted invasion, making me feel almost afraid for my life. I drove to some other courts but lots of people out for some reason; I guess spring break? I was really rattled, adrenaline pumping, and stopped by the police station nearby to ask an officer what his take on it would be. He was sympathetic but said he'd probably have to go with the what's on the signs, that wheeled things weren't allowed. Anyhow, cautionary tale - keep in mind there are people out there that refuse to live and let live, and they relish the opportunity to get in your way. This can be an additional challenge to skating. I'll look for a solution or work-around and let you know.

@Terrence Clark Thanks brother, and for not saying "Bro" like the vigilante did, lol; kind of a trigger now. Some guys say bro in a sarcastic, threatening way, as he did. I used to skate at Venice Beach in the '70s, but mostly south of there in Manhattan and Hermosa where I grew up. Where I'm at now isn't exactly skate friendly, obviously, but it's typically regarding skateboarding. I'm mulling over the idea of going to the parks dept. I suspect they'd think "do we really want to change policy, change all the signs, put up with complaints from skater-haters, etc?" At best they'd probably give me a polite no, but it would feel good to try. No doubt it would be GREAT to be able pull out a permission slip to show some loud mouth, lol, who might just beat me up anyway. Whatever the sign says is supposed to matter, and this has an ordinance (I forget the number) and those usually carry a fine; even if it's like $10 I can't afford it, but chances are it could be much more... I'll check it out. I DID find a flat park not far that has a big ol' sign that expressly omits rollerskating from their list of no-nos! Then not far from there is another park that has signs on tennis courts that simply say "Only tennis on tennis courts", but those courts are in such disrepair you couldn't safely WALK on them let alone skate, lol. As for the (gasp) skate park (lol), that was my first attempt; I went back and felt more comfortable, thanks. I am really heartened by your support Terrence, if I may call you brother I'd be honored, especially a former thug who proves people can turn things around. If I do with this thing I'll attribute it to you. Yesterday I went back to my original park and skated on the tennis court the bully was on where I had the encounter... a symbolic little victory.

May 4. Well Justo there was more to it than that, but I went back today, k? I hadn't even skated at all the last two weeks and I was getting worried, but I still got it, AND I had the double basketball courts all to myself as well. It was like I hadn't stopped, and like the universe said "Here AJ, have a good day, you deserve it."

One Leg Balance - Tips For Beginners
I’m struggling with One Leg Balance. May someone please give me some advice.

@Paulino Crespo I dunno, I've known a lot of strong people who were very clumsy and awkward, and many elegant dancers who never did strength training. Maybe it's not one thing or the other, but enough of both. They're complimentary, right? I haven't experienced muscle tremors in a long time, and some other things I'd wonder too is if I got enough sleep the night before or if I'm dehydrated. I'm just not convinced that strength is the best, main or only thing that is the answer to improving balance. I think as much time should be given to repeating precise movements.
