Off-Skate Work
I saw a post earlier and there were a couple people mentioning the importance of “off-skate” routines- I like to work on eagle in both directions against a wall to help the flexies and stretch- what are some things y’all are doing off-skate that is proving helpful when you get back in skates?!

Practice off skates as well as on skates
Finally got the green light
Peace family. It’s been quite a while. Back in August, I got injured while learning manuals and minimal spins. I tore two ligaments in my knee and sprained my meniscus. I thought I’d never skate again. The doctors kept telling that skating shouldn’t be my focus. Finally, 6 months later, my doctor/PT said it’s time! She wanted my to go skate but take it truly easy. I was overly excited.. I finally got the green light. So I’ve been tryna go these last few weeks and I’m just so in motivated and discouraged. My legs are weak and everything I had learned and the strength I built seems gone. I’m literally staring from the beginning. I want to just hang the skates up. I love skating but I’m just not feeling confident and I’m so nervous!! I know that was a lot but I felt comfortable sharing here.

Thanks for being vulnerable & sharing your feelings about where you’re at in your recovery. I get it. I’ve had set backs with my fibromyalgia and I’ve had a lot of success through PT and building up my strength post PT. It takes a lot of time and dedication but it can be done! This is just part of your personal progress story and no two people’s progress is going to be the same. What helps me in the short-term negative thought spiral is having a challenging reframing thought like “go kick ass” and putting today in perspective with my long-term goals like, “today is just one step towards my bigger goals” and celebrate small wins. I hope this helps in some way!

First skate in new skates
As you may know from my previous posts, my new skate setup includes wifa boot, powerdyne Arius plate, roll line Giotto 57mm wheels and beagle bearings. I took them out to a rink yesterday and so far I’m digging them. They are slightly lighter than previous skates (stock Chaya Melrose premiums with rollerbones teams wheels and Riedell 265’s with Powerdyne pro reactor plates), and a much slimmer profile. I noticed a slight change in agility but I think that has a lot to do with slimmer wheels as the Arius plate. I could pivot, pivot & land into manuals, and spin more easily. I’m excited to see where these skates take me. Short clip of transitions/pivots: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJ7aLwayPA8/?igsh=Zm0wOG5ja21rcDN4

@B Solo keep saving those Pennie’s!! Otherwise, I’ve since sold this set because I needed a firm boot with support. I am glad I had the experience of building this set and that someone else may enjoy them!

@Paula Pride thank you! I think I posted them in reverse order so the first one came after the second.
