On our last night in Lake Tahoe - the location being selected by my college-bound son for his send-off trip - we went out for a steak dinner to Chart House, one of his favorite places. I asked my wife and younger son to think about three reasons why Logan would be missed terribly and three reasons why they believed he would be very successful in this new phase of his life. We shared these with him after dinner was ordered and it all went well. He was clearly touched, but inspired.
I had an extra sharp outfit in case another client call came about, so I applied it. The boys had typical clothes for a mountain trip and my wife somewhere in between. I also took advantage of it being a later evening in the mountains to break out some warmer gear!
Lake Tahoe Dinner: Navy, Khaki, and Tobacco
Tuesday-rule summary: This outfit includes two strongest-possible Tuesday targets: OC-002 and FR-022 each have 0% reduction from initial cost to current cost per wear (first wears). The remaining pieces prioritize harmony for a polished family dinner.
• Jacket — DOJ-010 (Ralph Lauren): A business-formal navy wool blazer with a slight sheen and structured 42R silhouette. It creates a refined foundation while contrasting cleanly with the khaki trousers.
• Trousers — SL-008 (Santorelli): Tailored khaki wool slacks with a subtle basket weave. Their warm neutral color balances the navy jacket and accommodates the tobacco-brown overcoat.
• Shirt — DS-009 (Nordstrom): A bright-white SmartCare cotton shirt with a small diamond texture, point collar, and single-button barrel cuffs. The recommended 2.25-inch collar stays maintain a crisp frame around the striped tie.
• Undershirt — US-003 (Pro Club): A white cotton crew-neck undershirt in size XL. Its matching color remains discreet beneath the bright-white dress shirt.
• Tie — NT-057 (Rampley & Co.): A blue, cream, and ecru striped tie in textural shantung silk. A Four-in-Hand knot complements the point collar while preserving the tie’s relaxed elegance.
• Pocket Square — PS-009 (Fort Belvedere): A white linen square with distinctive blue X-stitch edging. A crisp TV fold repeats the shirt’s white and the outfit’s blue accents without competing with the striped tie.
• Belt — B-007 (Milorde): A navy leather belt that continues the blazer and footwear color story. Its understated appearance keeps the outfit cohesive rather than adding another competing leather tone.
• Footwear — DSh-020 (Salvatore Ferragamo): Italian navy-and-black leather penny loafers with split toes, Goodyear-welted construction, and leather soles. Their business-casual formality suits a refined dinner while reinforcing the navy palette.
• Socks — DSo-098 (Mes Chaussettes Rouges/Bresciani): Mint-condition, knee-high Cotton Lisle socks in navy and petrol-blue Birdseye. The subtle pattern adds depth between the khaki trousers and navy loafers while retaining business-classic formality.
• Overcoat — OC-002 (Via dei Navigli): A deep tobacco-brown cashmere overcoat with a soft, felt-like texture. This is a key Tuesday-rule selection, with it being the first wear.
• Dress Watch — W-003 (Fossil): The Neutra quartz dress watch combines a light-tan dial, stainless-steel case, and Havana-brown leather strap. Its warm leather connects naturally with the khaki trousers and tobacco overcoat.
• Secondary Watch — W-001 (Apple): The Apple Watch 10 uses a slate-titanium case and matching integrated band. Its dark, restrained finish remains unobtrusive beside the traditional dress watch.
• Business Card Case — BCC-002 (Fort Belvedere): A business-formal bifold case in brown and tan bison leather with silver hardware. The textured leather supports the outfit’s warm accessory story.
• Wallet — WL-002 (Fort Belvedere): A full-grain bifold in antique mahogany and petrol blue. Its interior blue accent quietly echoes the socks and navy tailoring.
• Gloves — GL-001 (Fort Belvedere): Midnight-blue lamb-nappa gloves lined with cashmere and finished with gray details. They provide Lake Tahoe warmth while coordinating directly with the blazer, loafers, and socks.
• Fragrance — FR-022 (Tom Ford Ombré Leather): Cardamom opens into leather and jasmine over amber, moss, and patchouli. This second Tuesday-rule selection also has a 0% cost reduction, while its dark leather character complements the evening tailoring and gloves.
• Wedding Ring — R-001 (Ellie’s Jewelry): A platinum wedding band set with diamonds. Its personal significance makes it the constant finishing element for the family dinner.
