CW = Critique welcome!
A bit of everything on tap today. Client meetings, vendor coming to the home office, internal calls, yelling at my Montblanc dealer (err, having a "conversation" about a spot of disappointment), and - time permitting - some actual client work to pay the bills.
I hope you'll all having a great day.
• Jacket — DOJ-008 (Hart Schaffner & Marx): A charcoal gray odd jacket in fully-lined wool with a faint pattern carrying light brown accents, cut for serious business-formal presence. The neutral charcoal anchors the day's warmer red and caramel notes while reading sharp on a video call — a recently tailored piece that brings authority without rigidity.
• Shirt — DS-041 (Charles Tyrwhitt): A classic-point collar dress shirt in light blue and navy Prince of Wales check with barrel two-button cuffs. The pattern adds visual interest on camera without competing with the tie's bolder geometry, and the soft blue keeps the warm palette feeling cool and balanced. Estimated 2.5" collar stays.
• Undershirt — US-022 (Sene): A custom Peruvian Pima cotton and elastane undershirt in white, fitted MTM and rated excellent for breathability. Invisible under the patterned blue check and quietly comfortable for a day of back-to-back meetings.
• Tie — NT-037 (Fort Belvedere): A Regular Self-Tipped tie in Ancient Matter silk and wool challis — red with buff and black, low-sheen finish, hand-rolled edges, three-fold construction. Large repeating geometric patterns with small detail work give it texture and presence; the ancient matter silk is a quiet luxury cue.
• Slacks — SL-019 (Ralph Lauren): Light brown wool slacks with a great fit and recent retailoring. The caramel tone provides warm contrast against the charcoal jacket and creates a natural color bridge to the burgundy wingtips and red tie — an earthy foundation for the warmer palette of the day.
• Belt — B-009 (Nordstrom): A dark brown leather belt with a polished silver buckle, traditional thick-collar single keeper. Tonally tied to the slacks and shoes while keeping the metals story strictly silver across belt, collar clip, and watch.
• Footwear — DSh-012 (Johnston & Murphy): Burgundy wingtip oxfords — polished, brogued, and confident. The burgundy now actively echoes the red in the tie rather than serving as a lone accent, tying the lower half of the outfit to the focal point at the chest.
• Socks — DSo-076: Over-the-calf dress socks coordinated to bridge the brown slacks and burgundy shoes. Selected for client-appropriate length and complementary tone within the warm palette.
• Pocket Square — PS-022 (Fort Belvedere): White linen pocket square with a red-colored edge. The crisp white peeks formally above the jacket pocket, while the red trim quietly nods to the red tie — a deliberate, subtle echo rather than an obvious match. Folded in a TV/Presidential fold for clean, formal geometry.
• Tie Accessories — TA-001 (Fort Belvedere): A platinum/silver double-clamp collar clip used to lift the tie knot and tighten the silhouette of the classic point collar (per the 70% rule for non-spread collars). Silver matches the belt buckle and watch case for a coherent metals story.
• Pen — P-002 (Montblanc Meisterstück 149): The flagship Meisterstück 149 in black resin with platinum trim — riding in the inner jacket pen pocket for note-taking during client and internal meetings. Quiet leadership signaling without ostentation.
• Ring — R-001: Wedding ring, always.
• Left Watch — W-006 (Fossil Townsman): The Fossil Townsman on light-brown leather strap with a stainless case. The brown strap echoes the slacks and belt, completing the warm-palette continuity, while the clean dial reads cleanly on a video call.
• Business Card Case — BCC-003 (Montblanc): Black leather two-sided card case with a zipped center compartment. Slim, structured, and ready for the new Vertex introduction with Arie B — a polished detail when handing off contact information.
• Fragrance — FR-014 (Roberto Ugolini Marzocco): An amber-woody composition layering citrus, spices, woods, amber, and resins. Sophisticated and multi-faceted with controlled sillage — perfectly suited to a video-meeting day where presence is felt without overwhelming.
