Said in the American date format, it is six-two-six-two-six ;-)
One major team meeting already done for the day and my business partner come in live for a catch up in a few hours. The office staff are beginning to plan for various employee and contractor holidays/vacations, and this is good. As a workaholic, I hardly ever take time off. As a psychologist, I know that someone who takes their full vacation time each year is more productive across the year than someone who takes no vacation. In terms of hours, it makes little sense. In terms of psychological health, it makes tons of sense. Encourage your employees to take off time to reset, revitalize, and reinspire themselves. Set the example by doing so yourself (and then secretly check in with few people knowing!).
On a sad sartorial note, I just saw an email from Raphael at Gentleman's Gazette that their printer of silk and wool is going out of business, thereby ending sales of several beautiful products from Fort Belvedere. On complete coincidence, the pocket square I am wearing today - which I just received from FB - is one of these discontinued items. FB does a great job of printing beautiful silk pocket squares in a full size so that it stays up in the pocket. The colors are both rich and lustrous, but sedate given the type of printing conducted. I also have one of the ancient matter pocket squares, and it frankly is not dissimilar from the current square's aesthetic. I know we all cannot invest in the best quality products and we have to select which items we invest our money into. And yet, I firmly believe it is us - the customers - who are the only ones that can ensure the survival of sartorial artisans. Consider what you value in this field and invest. Many of us love shoes - make sure to invest in the great shoemakers you love directly. The big watch makers probably don't need your money, but smaller artisanal horologist do!
OK, speaking of investing, my Friday outfits always include selecting outfit items with some of the fewest wears. The does include a brand new watch for me, from Swiss watch maker Mido, as it has zero previous wears!
• Dress Shirt — DS-043 (Charles Tyrwhitt): Sky blue spread collar non-iron herringbone with French cuffs. The herringbone weave adds subtle texture while the adjustable French cuffs allow for cufflink presentation on camera. Sporting some shirt cuffs today under the jacket as well, as these sleeves are a bit long.
• Slacks — SL-020 (Joseph Abboud): Mid-gray wool with subtle mini-check pattern and double outward pleats, part of a 2-button single-breasted suit made in the USA. The heavier wool weight with 3/4 lining and 1.5" cuffs delivers classic business formality with excellent drape.
• Odd Jacket — DOJ-006 (Brooks Brothers): Midnight blue Brooksool blazer with gold buttons in a 2-roll-3 configuration. Full acetate lining with rope shoulders and high armholes. The subtle sheen works beautifully on camera. Friday Rule: #4/10 blazers (3 wears) – top 40%.
• Necktie — NT-067 (Countess Mara): Burgundy silk with silver and cream geometric pattern. USA-made, 3-fold construction with slip stitch. The 4" width sits perfectly modern and the pattern scale reads well on video. Friday Rule: #32/70 ties (only 1 wear) – top 46%.
• Belt — B-009 (Nordstrom): Dark brown leather with silver buckle in thick collar style. Classic dress belt that anchors the brown leather theme.
• Footwear — DSh-019 (Carmina): Dark brown braided leather slippers from the Mallorca atelier on the Simpson last. Goodyear welted with brass tacks at heel and toe. The braided texture adds visual interest while the slipper silhouette keeps the look relaxed for the in-person portion. Friday Rule: #4/20 dress shoes (2 wears) – top 20%.
• Dress Socks — DSo-063 (Fort Belvedere): Over-the-calf cotton in mid-brown with blue shadow stripes. The blue stripe echoes the seersucker and provides cohesion between the brown leather accessories and blue jacket.
• Cufflinks — CL-020 (Unnamed): Deep blue square glass stones with brushed gold border in classic T-bar mechanism. The gold picks up the blazer buttons while the blue complements both shirt and tie.
• Pocket Square — PS-041 (Fort Belvedere): Silk-wool blend (60/40) medallion pattern with paisley border in mohair blue, burgundy, green, and yellow. Hand-rolled edges, hand screen printed in England. Wrinkle-resistant – perfect for all-day wear. Pairs beautifully with the burgundy tie.
