Happy Friday, everyone. The day began very well with our longest client asking us to prepare a contract for a two-year project. She was also providing us for information on a presentation we just had accepted at a major conference (major for my niche industry) on the comfort and appropriateness of using AI in patient-reported outcomes research from the perspective of experts from pharmaceutical companies, major consultancies, and AI experts (who, interestingly, are the most hesitant). I will be presenting this research in Vienna in November.
Today is also a good day in that it is my first official wear outside (after my 24 hours of break in) for my Yearn oxblood Balmoral boots! I am loving them. Unfortunately, the outfit I have on reveals that the slacks and jacket need alterations, and the slacks were already altered! I think I may have grown taller...
Charcoal, blue and oxblood for a polished Friday video-conference look
Friday rotation check:
The Friday rule was met at the time of selection: DS-051, NT-065, and DSo-095 each had zero prior recorded wears and therefore fell within the 35 least-worn items. Today’s entry raised each to one wear; additional low-use pieces included DSh-022 (the new boots! I did count a wear inside my house one day as it was all I wore during a weekend day) and DOJ-008, while overall harmony took priority over forcing more zero-wear items into the outfit.
• Jacket — DOJ-008 (Hart Schaffner & Marx): A charcoal-gray wool odd jacket with restrained light-brown detailing, notch lapels and a fully lined construction. The charcoal contrasts deliberately with the light-brown trousers, while its brown accent connects naturally to the oxblood leather.
• Trousers — SL-019 (Ralph Lauren Green Label): Light-brown basket-weave wool trousers with dark-brown and cream details, cut in a classic 34W × 27L fit. Their subtle sheen and warm coloring bridge the charcoal jacket and oxblood boots without resembling an attempted matched suit.
• Shirt — DS-051 (Savile Row Company): A blue textured cotton-puppytooth Winchester shirt with contrasting white cutaway collar and French cuffs. The altered 16–35.5 fit and shortened sleeves provide a crisp frame for the tie while supplying one of Friday’s zero-prior-wear selections.
• Undershirt — US-006 (True Classic): A fitted black cotton-polyester crew-neck undershirt in size Large. Its smooth, regular-weight construction stays discreet beneath the saturated blue shirt.
• Tie — NT-065 (Ermenegildo Zegna): A gray silk tie with restrained gold and light-blue geometric details, measuring 59.5 × 3.5 inches. Its low sheen harmonizes with the charcoal jacket and gold-trimmed cufflinks; wear it in a balanced Half-Windsor beneath the cutaway collar.
• Pocket Square — PS-035 (Fort Belvedere): A substantial white linen square with burgundy X-stitch edging. A crisp TV fold keeps the presentation controlled while the burgundy border quietly recalls the oxblood leather.
• Belt — B-017 (Nordstrom): A flat oxblood leather belt in size 32 with a silver buckle. Its color closely follows the boots, maintaining a disciplined leather story.
• Footwear — DSh-022 (Yearn Shoemaker): Custom hand-welted Balmoral boots in oxblood museum calf with dark burnishing, built on the Y02 last in size 9.5 UK/E. Their bark-tanned leather soles and refined crescent heels elevate the outfit while complementing the brown trousers and oxblood belt.
• Socks — DSo-095 (Mazarin/Mes Chaussettes Rouges): Solid sky-blue knee-high cotton-lisle socks in size 42–43, finished with hand-linked toes. Their clean color echoes the shirt’s blue body and represents another zero-prior-wear Friday selection.
• Cufflinks — CL-020 (Unnamed): Opaque deep-blue square glass cufflinks framed in brushed gold. The blue supports the shirt and tie, while the gold repeats the tie’s restrained warm detailing.
• Watch — W-008 (Orient): The Orient Bambino Version 7 Small Seconds pairs a white-silver sunburst dial with a polished 38.4 mm case and black leather strap. Its domed crystal and separate seconds register create traditional dress-watch interest without competing with the outfit.
• Ankle Watch — W-001 (Apple): The slate titanium Apple Watch is worn on the ankle solely for health and activity collection. It is not visible and is excluded from the outfit’s aesthetic evaluation.
• Pen — P-006 (Montblanc): The Meisterstück 149 fountain pen combines glossy black precious resin, platinum trim and an 18K medium nib. Its substantial proportions provide an executive-grade writing instrument for the day’s work.
• Business Card Case — BCC-001 (Fort Belvedere): A structured black German-aniline-leather case with green goat-velour lining and silver clasp hardware. Its restrained exterior coordinates with the watch strap and pen while concealing a distinctive interior.
• Briefcase — CRY-002 (Carl Friedrik): The chocolate-brown Palissy Double is a structured Italian-vachetta briefcase with two zipped compartments, brushed-silver hardware and a 15-inch laptop sleeve. Its rich brown leather supports the trousers and oxblood accessories without requiring an exact color match.
• Wallet — WL-002 (Fort Belvedere): An antique-mahogany bullhide bifold with petrol-blue contrast and forest-green moiré lining. The warm exterior fits the leather palette, while the concealed blue accent references the shirt.
• Wedding Ring — R-001 (Ellie’s Jewelry): The platinum-and-diamond wedding band remains the outfit’s constant personal accessory. Its cool metal sits comfortably alongside the watch case and other restrained hardware.
• Fragrance — FR-001 (Montblanc Legend): Montblanc Legend is a clean aromatic fougère built around bergamot, lavender, pineapple, oakmoss and tonka bean. Its moderate, professional presence is appropriate for video conferences and avoids overpowering the tailored outfit.
