  • CW = critiques welcome - always!
Today was an early set of meetings for our biggest project and will end with planning meetings for getting our youngest employee on a good track, should he be willing to undertake the challenge. My new leader is actually quite excited about the opportunity to mentor in this capacity. The ability to align employee strengths with internal needs is rarely this easy, but I always enjoy the chess-like considerations. Sometimes it's a matter of "who will hate this the least" and then, times like this, "is there someone aching for an opportunity like this one?". The later can often involve alignment of their preferences with the situation so that one helps them see the connection. This is the part of senior leadership (which does seem odd to describe it as such in a small company) that I thoroughly enjoy.
The outfit today was put together over the weekend, largely before I knew the content of the meetings. Nevertheless, it works well. The gray flannel says serious while the vest-only says I am here to roll up my sleeves as well. The focus on reducing CPW on Tuesdays says that I want to get as much value as possible out of what we have already invested in at the company.
Oh, it's also a good outfit to show the newest hat!
Color story: Executive grayscale with blue and lavender accents
Tuesday-rule compliance
Today’s outfit meets the Tuesday CPW-development rule particularly well with four items never previously worn:
Item Initial cost Current CPW (after today) Reduction
Shirt DS-050 $34.85 $37.43 50%
Trousers SL-025 $40.00 $20.00 50%
Vest VWC-012 $20.00 $10.00 50%
Tie NT-058 $7.27 $3.64 50%
These are four of the 35 qualifying items with the largest percentage reduction, exactly meeting the preferred target of three to four Tuesday-focus pieces. The shirt’s CPW exceeds its initial price because its recorded item-specific accessory cost is included, but its calculated reduction remains 50%.
Additional rule compliance:
  • Harmony overrides CPW selection: the four focus items form a coherent gray, blue, black, and lavender ensemble rather than being included arbitrarily.
  • Pocket-square hard gate: no jacket is worn, and VWC-012 has no recorded usable chest pocket; therefore the pocket-square entry correctly remains None.
  • VC relaxation: formal standards are maintained in the visible shirt, tie, and vest, while less-visible elements remain cohesive without being unnecessarily restrictive.
  • Watch rule: W-007 is the visible left-hand watch, while W-001 is used as the non-visible Ankle Watch.
  • Pattern discipline: the shirt check, vest mélange, tie geometry, and suspenders pattern differ in scale and are separated sufficiently to avoid visual competition.
Outfit details
• Vest and trousers — VWC-012, SL-025 (Nino Cerruti/Currito): The matching three-piece-suit separates combine heather-gray wool flannel with a matte twill character and moderate weight. Both are Tuesday-focus pieces at 50% CPW reduction, creating a unified business-formal foundation rather than an improvised near-match.
• Shirt — DS-050 (Savile Row Company): A lightweight blue-and-light-blue cotton-poplin shirt with a Prince of Wales check, cutaway collar, and double cuffs. It is another 50%-reduction Tuesday item; approximately 2.5-inch collar stays are estimated because the recorded stay size is blank.
• Undershirt — US-004 (Pro Club): A heavy black cotton crew-neck undershirt with a comfortable fit. It remains concealed while supporting the outfit’s broader black accessory story.
• Tie — NT-058 (Lauren Ralph Lauren): A hand-finished, three-fold silk tie in black and gray with restrained lavender geometric details and low sheen. This fourth 50%-reduction Tuesday item bridges the gray flannel and blue shirt; a balanced Half-Windsor will fill the cutaway collar appropriately.
• Suspenders — SB-004 (JJ Suspenders): Gray suspenders with black-and-white patterning, black leather loops, and silver hardware. Their selection follows the trousers’ anchor eligibility and avoids violating the rule against wearing both suspenders and a belt.
• Footwear — DSh-009 (TLB Mallorca): Formal black box-calf whole-cut Oxfords with Goodyear-welted construction, almond toes, and leather soles. Their clean, uninterrupted silhouette anchors the patterned upper half and strengthens the executive presentation.
• Socks — DSo-097 (Mes Chaussettes Rouges/Gammarelli): Solid black cotton-lisle dress socks with flat knitting, hand-linked toes, and slight sheen. Their simplicity prevents pattern overload and visually extends the black whole-cut Oxfords. These are my only all-black dress socks, which would have seemed crazy to me two years ago.
• Cufflinks — CL-006 (Hugo Boss): Cobalt-and-black three-dimensional square cufflinks add a concentrated blue accent at the wrists. Their geometry echoes the shirt and tie without introducing another competing color family.
• Watch — W-007 (Stührling): A polished stainless-steel automatic watch with a white skeleton dial, navy details, engraved scrollwork, and black leather strap. The navy supports the shirt while the strap matches the shoes and other black leather accessories.
• Ankle Watch — W-001 (Apple): The slate titanium Apple Watch is worn on the ankle solely for health and activity monitoring. It is not visible and is excluded from the outfit’s visual-harmony evaluation, as required.
• Business Card Case — BCC-003 (Montblanc): A smooth black leather, two-sided card case with a zipped center pocket and silver hardware. Its black-and-silver treatment coordinates with the shoes, watch, suspenders, and cufflinks while providing rotation variety.
• Wallet — WL-001 (Montblanc): A black full-grain calfskin bifold with a subtle carbon-fiber texture and painted edges. It keeps the leather story consistently black without adding another visible pattern.
• Wedding Ring — R-001 (Ellie’s Jewelry): The platinum-and-diamond wedding ring supplies the permanent personal element. Its cool metal coordinates naturally with the silver hardware and polished watch case.
• Fragrance — FR-020 (Tom Ford Oud Wood): Oud Wood combines cardamom, rosewood, oud, sandalwood, vetiver, tonka, amber, and vanilla in a refined woody-spicy composition. Applied lightly, its smoky sophistication supports the dark accessories and executive tone.
• Headwear — HW-010 (Stetson): The Frederick fedora uses firm caribou-gray wool felt with black accents and a wide grosgrain band. It aligns closely with the gray flannel and black accessories, functioning as an arrival/departure element rather than part of the indoor VC presentation.
