Learning to let go!
For this project, we installed 1/4" steel edging to define the space and create a clean, functional walkway. Before, it was just thinning grass and bare dirt. The client wanted to make the area usable, so we added the path and xeriscaped the rest for a low-maintenance finish.
While we’ve used steel edging on smaller jobs before, this was our most extensive installation yet. We learned a lot about what it takes to keep the steel aligned and secure. One of the biggest wins for me personally was stepping back and letting my team problem-solve on their own. I have a habit of jumping in and trying to do everything myself, but I’ve realized that doing so takes away learning opportunities from the crew. This time, I let them problem solve—and they crushed it. They felt proud of the outcome, and I felt more confident in trusting them with bigger responsibilities moving forward.
