Did You Know? Laughter really is good medicine
In the 1960s, journalist Norman Cousins was told he had a painful, serious illness that doctors couldn’t do much about. Alongside his treatment, he checked into a hotel room with a stack of comedy films. He later wrote that ten minutes of real belly laughter gave him at least two hours of pain-free sleep. Science has since caught up with what he found. When we laugh with other people, our brains release endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. In studies at Oxford, people who had just laughed together could tolerate more pain than those who hadn’t. Laughter has also been linked to lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone that keeps us wired and tense. The part I love most is that laughter is deeply social. Researcher Robert Provine found we’re about 30 times more likely to laugh when we’re with someone than when we’re alone. Often it isn’t even the joke that gets us. It’s the connection. That’s one reason laughter yoga, started by Dr Madan Kataria in Mumbai, works so well. A room of people begins with “fake” laughter, and within minutes it turns into the real thing because it’s so contagious. So when life feels heavy, laughing isn’t avoiding your feelings. It gives your nervous system a moment to reset. Your turn 👇 What’s the last thing that made you laugh until you cried? Share it below. A funny memory, a meme, or a story about your pet all count. Let’s spread some of that medicine around this community today.

🌟 Happy weekend! 🌟
As we embrace the weekend, let's take a moment to reflect and reset. Weekends are a perfect time to pause, breathe, and evaluate our journey. They offer us a precious opportunity to look back at the past week and set positive intentions for the days ahead. Reflection is a powerful tool. It helps us understand our experiences, recognize our achievements, and learn from our challenges. By taking time to reflect, we gain clarity and can align our actions with our true desires and goals. Here are a few journaling prompts to guide your reflection: 1. Reflect on the obstacles and the lessons they brought. Growth often comes from our toughest moments. 3. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗜 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸? Self-care is crucial. Acknowledge the ways you nurtured your mind, body, and soul. 4. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄? Gratitude shifts our focus to the positive aspects of life, enhancing our overall well-being. 5. Permission Slip: Today, I'm Doing Nothing Useful 🛋️
Can I be honest with you? Today is my first proper rest day in weeks. No workshops to plan, no content to create, no inbox. Just my feet up, a series I've been saving, a book I keep meaning to finish, a few games, and maybe some slow cupboard sorting if the mood takes me. And I noticed something this morning. A small voice asking, "𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧𝘧?" That voice is exactly why I'm taking it. Many of us were raised to believe rest is a reward, something you get only once everything is done. But everything is never done. So we keep going, running on empty, and wonder why our joy, creativity and patience have gone quiet. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁. When you slow down, your body moves out of survival mode and starts to repair. Your mind gets space to wander, and that's often when the clarity you've been chasing finally arrives. The ideas you couldn't force at your desk tend to turn up on the couch. And there's something quieter going on as well. Every time you choose rest without guilt, you teach yourself that your worth isn't tied to how much you produce. You are allowed to simply be. So this is your permission slip, if you need one. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁. I'll be back tomorrow, recharged and probably with a tidier cupboard. 😊 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂: When did you last take a full rest day, with no guilt and no catching up? And what does your perfect veg day look like? Tell me in the comments. 👇 With love and light, Caro 🌿
