Women's Conference
I attended Jannah Institute's women retreat a few weeks ago and wanted to share a few reflections. The theme was Single, Married, Divorced: 4 seasons of life so felt appropriate to share here.
Lesson 1: Make your first love Allah. Like have we genuinely spent time not only getting to know Allah but making him our first love? And it dawned on me that I haven't.
Lesson 2: We tend to get closer to Allah in order to get the means (marriage, career, children, etc.) but have we ever prayed to Allah to have the means be our gateway to Jannah? This one blew my mind because I don't think I quite saw things this way. When we are focused on doing everything for the sake of Allah and getting closer to him for the sake of our akhira, it shifts the focus away from what we don't have and to how to use what we have right now to please Allah.
Lesson 3: Be content with where you are and strive for the cause of Allah! How are we striving for his sake with what we've been given today, not what we're lacking, but where we are right now. This isn't to discount the wanting to get married, but in the mean time, what are we doing with our time, energy, focus?
Lesson 4: Just because we do everything right, it doesn't mean divorce will be avoided. We have to vet and then take a leap of faith. Many women fear divorce and it is a very hard thing to go through. But we shouldn't avoid getting married out of fear that we might end up getting divorced. We have to learn to accept Allah's decree as he knows best.
The day was filled with so many gems. I just wanted to share my reflections without making it too long in case this supports anyone while in this phase of life.
