Misunderstanding Remembering
The brain has a fairly definitive desktop.
There’s only room in what we neuropsychology folks call “working memory” for about 5-8 bits of information.
This has deep ramifications for what’s IN your mind versus what’s ON your mind.
Here are some key considerations:
1) Just because you’re not conscious of your thoughts does not mean those thoughts are not affecting you.
2) You’ll most often notice an emotion but be unaware of your thought process responsible for the emotion.
3) You’ll often connect your own behavior with another person’s in a causal relationship, believing their behavior CAUSED your behavior when, in reality, your own thought processes ALWAYS cause your own behavior.
4) Just because you’re not thinking of something (or, someone) doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten it (or, them)
