🌱 Thinking Positively vs. Thinking Accurately
Positive thinking sprays perfume on the trash bin. Accurate thinking takes the trash out. Both emotions and actions run on the same fuel: THOUGHT PROCESSES Change the cognition → change the chain. Don’t chase “positive.” Choose “accurate.” 1️⃣ Ask yourself, “What THOUGHT am I experiencing in this moment?” 2️⃣ Drill down to the SIMPLEST form of that thought. 3️⃣ Interrogate that thought for ACCURACY. How realistic is it really? What EVIDENCE does it have? Forget thinking POSITIVELY. Accuracy builds better mindsets. Know someone struggling with their own thoughts? @Dr. Heath right, ignoring the evidence can be detrimental of course. ( especially the umbrella scenario 😬) but the first two examples can result in success with positivity and confidence. I’m trying to remain positive that I will be healthy for my granddaughter’s birth, due next week. Do I have evidence to the contrary? No, but based on experience, this week has been tough, which I know has nothing to do with the day she arrives. So I’m going to assume I’ll be ok. But believe me, I’ve worried a lot about this when I know I don’t have evidence of the future. So my goal is to work on positivity.

@Dr. Heath I don’t know how to define positivity other than that I’m trying to picture the best outcome.
Weekend Mindset: Overwhelming Use of Overwhelming 😳
“Overwhelming” is yet another way of catastrophizing an experience. These days, every non-preferred event gets labeled “OVERWHELMING”. Remember, “overwhelming” refers to something that can kill us. Tornadoes, earthquakes, Tsunamis etc may, in fact, be overwhelming for this reason: They can be deadly. Overwhelmed is a cognition; a thought process NOT A FEELING. THINKING you are “overwhelmed” creates the FEELING/EMOTION of nervousness, anxiety, or panic. Something being nonpreferred or difficult or tiring does not equate to being overwhelming. Catastrophizing the hard things in life activates our limbic system but only because we have assessed them as being more threatening than they actually are. Our own words program our reality. Be careful how YOU are programming yours this weekend.

In my mind the anxiety, nervousness and panic leads me to believe I’m overwhelmed, which is the opposite of what you are saying. What would I say if I can’t use overwhelmed? It’s funny because in listening to TV shows and everyday life, I hear “ I feel guilty” a lot. I automatically think no, it’s not a feeling because of what I’ve learned from you. A lot of these phrases are what we’ve always known and it’s like trying to learn a new language! ( It’s overwhelming!!😂)
Stop, Observe, & Breathe In Some Nature
Happy Labor Day! One of the healthiest habits I practice throughout my day is “Mental Breaking”. Taking time to stop, observe, & breathe reduces heart rate, improves your brain’s oxygen supply, releases endorphins, and switches your brain out of the chemical stew of the DO DO BRAIN to the more relaxed OBSERVER BRAIN. Mental Breaking Tool Let my hummingbirds’ dance of life transport you into a 90 second flow state of healing. Stop Breathe Observe ☝️ Share the link to this healthy post with someone that could benefit from a peace of mind technique.

This is so relaxing Dr. Heath. Beautiful area. I have my bird feeder right on my deck off my living room so the kitties and I enjoy it so much. Last night, it was starting to get dark and I kept hearing a single bird chirping for quite some time. I got up and there was a cardinal which I rarely see. Thanks mom for your message to me when I needed it. ♥️
Read Your Way to Better Sleep 😴
It’s a bit like winning the healthy living lottery when you discover something you’ve done for awhile is actually GOOD for you. I’ve been doing this for years without realizing how much it was helping my sleep. Last night I was reading about bats 🦇 A randomized trial study found that 42 percent of bedtime readers reported better sleep quality, compared to 28 percent of non-readers. Those who read before bed averaged 25 extra minutes of sleep per night; nearly three additional hours weekly. Take a week to strengthen your sleeping habits with some great bedtime stories 😴 Share what you’re reading 📖

Mirror, Mirror on the wall . . .
Who is the most narcissistic of them all? Labeling others? One of the most narcissistic traits is labeling others as narcissistic. Beware the mirror’s truth: Those quick to judge may harbor the deepest self-obsession. Pointing fingers risks revealing your own reflection. #overdiagnosis #labeling #judging #amateurdiagnosis (116 characters)

@Jacob Ashburn I think you’re absolutely right that people throw the term around freely. I think our only responsibility is to assess ourselves and how we are living our lives, not others.

@Liliana G great point that people that may be narcissistic don’t question whether or not they have it. And Jacob, I also am so glad you’re here!!!
