The No-Nag Method -> Get your swimmer off the phone without the war. Yes, you know exactly what I'm talking about... Whether you just watched my video or you're finding this in the group for the first time, you're in exactly the right place. Read this once and you'll know exactly what we're doing, why it works, and the one thing to do today. 🔥 What this is A short challenge (kicks off the last week of June, right here in the group) where we get your competitive teen swimmer (12+) off the phone without nagging, without confiscating, without being the bad guy. I run it with you. You, me, and your swimmer. You just follow the steps and show up. 📲 Why we don't just take the phone away After about 13, strict phone rules don't just stop working, they backfire... a teenager is wired to push back against being controlled, so every rule becomes the next thing they rebel against. It was never that you weren't trying hard enough. So we do the opposite: stop policing the kid, start changing the conditions. The 3 moves (the whole method): 1️⃣ Clear the Lane Change the environment, not the kid. Three screen-free zones (phone charges outside the bedroom, screen-free dinner, screen-free hour before bed). Most of the nightly battle just disappears. 2️⃣ Sign the Line Your swimmer says, in their own words, why this helps their swimming, picks what they'll do instead, and signs a simple agreement they actually own. When it's their idea, it sticks. This is the engine. 3️⃣ Keep the Splits Track it like a race: screen time, sleep, morning energy. They log it, watch the numbers move, and it becomes a game they want to win. What to expect Short daily steps in this group, each quick and clear. Better sleep, sharper mornings at the pool, fewer fights.... and a swimmer who's CHOOSING it. I'll be right here the whole way. Your first step 👉 Today (3 min): ONE conversation with your swimmer. Comeback competition after a short break
On Saturday I had my first outdoor competition. This was also my first competition since I took a short break after regionals 6 weeks ago. The conditions were everything but perfect - bad blocks, 38 degrees and no cooldown pool. I still gave my best and overall quite happy with my results. First I had the 50 free. This was the first time I raced the 50 free this year. Felt terrible the first 25 and was also quite slow. Came back on the second half and found a good rhythm so I finished only .08 off my PB that I swam fully tapered. Next I had the 200 back: honestly it felt really good and I also swam my fastest 2nd 100 ever with 1:15.0 but was out way to slow in 1:12.8 so I was miles away from my PB. After a short lunchbreak I had the 100 fly. Honestly this event was my main focus for the day and it went pretty good. I changed my breathing-rhythm and pulling-technique after nationals in April and this was the second time I had the chance to try it out. Everything went well and I didn’t even feel like I was completely dying in the end. Had my fastest back-half ever. For me the main reason for this is my better underwaters. Attached a video. I’m in lane 4 with the silver cap. My last race was the 100 back. The same problem from the 200 appeared again. Splits were closer together than ever before but I was lacking the top-speed. So I went PB +4 The 100s of course were brutal because it was the hottest day of the year so far and I was completely stressed and dehydrated. Also not enough time to eat because I was coaching at the same time. I know that’s not an excuse but for me it was totally worth it - two of my kids (age 12 and 13) broke our team records in the 800 free LC. Maybe I’ll try to beat the male record next season Sorry for the long post guys😬

The "She's Just Not a Racer" Trap (and How It Quietly Caps Your Swimmer)
There's a sentence you've said about your kid so often it feels like a fact. It's not. And it might be their ceiling. You know the kind almost every swim parent has said: "She's just not a natural." "He doesn't have the killer instinct." "She's a trainer, not a racer." "He's just not built for distance." There's a line I love: "We question all of our beliefs.. except the ones we truly believe. And those, we never think to question." That sentence about your kid is one of those. You've repeated it 400 times, so it stopped feeling like an opinion and started feeling like a fact. It is not a fact. It's a belief. I saw this nailed in, of all places, a marketing email. Business owners love to say "my market is saturated" as the reason they can't grow. The point: that's just an excuse, because it lives OUTSIDE your control.. so there's nothing you can do about it. The fix is to reframe it into something INSIDE your control. Suddenly there's a move to make. Same with your kid. "She's not a racer" lives outside your control. Dead end. Reframe it: "I haven't figured out what makes HER want to race yet." Now you've got something to work with. "He doesn't have the killer instinct" becomes "we haven't found the thing he's competitive about yet." The belief you never question becomes the ceiling you never raise. So let's poke one today: what's a belief about your swimmer you've been treating as a fact.. that you're willing to question? Say it out loud below. That's the first crack in the ceiling. Onwards. David & Co ☺️
