400 free Goal
Hi, as I have now finished Counties the next goal is Regionals. I have a gala coming up in March the day before the cut of for Regionals. I will be swimming the 400 freestyle and my goal is to get the Regional time. My time is 5.58 but as I last did it 2 years ago I am hoping for a big pb. The Regional time for my age group is 5.01 and my Coach thinks I can get under 5 minutes. I have broken it down into 8, 50s and I need to get atleast 37 or quicker for each 50 which sounds easy but over 8 , I might get tired quite quickly. My Coach timed me doing a 400 last month I got 5.48 but I was doing it for cool down as I just wanted to see my average if I was going slow. If I do get the Regional time I will be 2nd or 1st in the Countie. Does anyone have any tips on how to go under 5 minutes in the 400. Thanks😊
Is Your Swimmer Missing Out And Getting Left Behind?
Every swimmer visualizes, even if they don’t realize it. 🌟 Dreaming about standing on the podium, gold medal in hand? 😬 Dreading how tough tomorrow morning’s practice might be? That’s visualization. But here’s the thing—most swimmers do it without structure. And when visualization is random, it doesn’t help them swim faster or perform under pressure. Want proof that structured visualization works? Look at Adam Peaty, one of the greatest breaststrokers of all time. His preparation for the Rio Olympics was next-level. For ten months before the Games, Adam used audio from a previous World Championship to mentally rehearse the moment he feared most: walking out to the pool for the Olympic final. 🎙️ He practiced hearing the announcer call his name for lane four. 🔥 He practiced feeling the pressure of being the favorite. 💪 And he practiced swimming his race—again and again in his mind. By the time he stood on that pool deck in Rio, he’d done it hundreds of times. He wasn’t overwhelmed. He wasn’t doubting himself. He was ready. That’s the power of structured visualization. ✔️ It turns pressure into confidence. ✔️ It takes the fear out of big moments. ✔️ It allows swimmers to let their training shine when it matters most. And here’s the exciting part: your swimmer can use this same tool. 🎯 They’re already visualizing anyway—so why not help them use it the right way? I teach competitive swimmers a simple, step-by-step process to build visualization skills that work. It’s easy to learn, takes just minutes a day, and can make a huge difference in how they perform under pressure. REYKJAVIK NATIONAL GAMES!
Just arrived at the swimming pool where the most biggest competition (I would say) is held! I am pretty nervous because it's a 50m pool, and usually my team trains in 25m and compete in 25m, with usually different times. I am not used to compete in 50m long course. I'll try my best to get closer and closer to my final time, and who knows, maybe I'll do better! But of course, you never know what you'll get; that is why I'll focus on my breathing and present. I hope everyone will have a good weekend! UPDATES 1: for 50 m butterfly I retain the last time at 25 m short course (34.40 to now 34.45 s) but improved by almost 2 s comparing the previous time at 50 m long course while for 50 m freestyle I also pretty retain the last time at 25 m short course (31.45 to now 31.79 s) but improved by almost 3 s comparing the previous time at 50 m long course. UPDATES 2: today I had 100 m butterfly and 200 m freestyle, 50 m long course. It was a bit harder and could not keep my time corresponding to 25 m short course. I tried hard but still being off about 4 s from the entry time. Not sure why but all my entry times were taken from my latest times obtained on 25 m short course and not on 50 m course, the last time I did on 50 m long course it was in March 2024. Comparing to those times, I improved my times for 100 m butterfly and 200 m freestyle by 7 s (from 1:27.37 to 1:20.40) and almost 10 s (from 2:45.30 to 2:35.79). I hope tomorrow to get a bit closer to my 25 m time for 100 m freestyle.

County Development Programme
Happy new year everyone! Yesterday we received an email inviting Skyla to be on the county development programme for talented swimmers. This is very exciting for us as it is the first step to a national pathway. Another step towards her dreams. Does anyone have experience of these pathways in the Uk? Are they helpful and what can we expect? Thank you
