Wood floor surfaces for smooth chair rolling

Hi Everyone,

We’re planning some renovations in my studio to take place starting September 1st. Currently my floor is carpet. Short thin carpet, not 70’s shag LOL. I can roll around on my 5 wheeled chair ok but I would like to do some kind of solid like a wooden island in a sea of carpet if you will.

I recently saw a control room photo showing a wood floor surface in front of the console and work area. To me it looks like the floor surface was laid out on top of the carpet like a mat. Has anyone seen something like this in studios you work out of?
