Please help. What is/was your strategy for sound collection?
Again and again I keep running into the same issue - endlessly searching for sounds during creativity flow. Auditioning 200 snares and scrolling through presets and samples does not help the momentum. More and more this makes sense to me to have a collection of sounds prepared before producing. In recent Produce-A-Ton, Dane showed his collection of recorded sounds in Sampler menu. Now I’m eager to know whether ther’s like the best strategy for building my collection. What was your strategy? Did you organize by: Genre? Element (kicks, snares, basses, vocals)?Emotional character? Texture (warm, digital, dusty, aggressive, soft)?“Go-to” sounds that always work for you?

@Daisy Arvizu I was thinking today, so.... Stage One in Production - Complete the Idea with Any Sound. if I need to dial everything first, then I need to have a collection of sounds I always use just for this purpose. I have an idea so I sit down and WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT SOUND SELECTION I need to use those basic sounds to dial every single thing, all chords, all melodies, all bass lines, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. So, I complete the whole structure! THEN! Stage Two in Production - Auditioning sounds. Instead of basic pad, I design few layers, if I like the kick, keep it...if not, audition another kick, and so on. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~LOVE~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~THIS!~~~~~~~~ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ @Tony Dee

Must be there!
Do you align tracks to one groove template?
Last month I focused deeply on rhythm programming and groove. One thing that really stood out to me was learning not only how to create groove from scratch, but also how to extract groove from an audio file and turn it into a groove template that can be applied to any track. Then I watched Produce-A-Ton and didn’t find any discussion about the groove templates or aligning all instruments to one groove. It looked liked something not really important. But I’m curious about your workflow: How often do you actually apply groove templates to your tracks? Is it something you use regularly, occasionally for certain genres, or almost never? And when you do use groove, do you prefer creating your own feel or extracting it from existing audio?

@Annette Hougen thank you so much, I must do the same! It sounds exciting to try!

@Neil Speers thank you. I’m still testing it and noticed how it doesn’t work sometimes. Yeah and in my research about this, I found that groove must have many transient points, if there is no transient point, nothing is applied. So I’m now testing how 16th hihats grove is applied to all instruments. Still researching and observing what happens.
