Woodstock Audio Waveform Compressor
Hey, @Rob Mayzes. Quick question: Is there a specific reason the minimum release time on the Waveform Compressor (and Open Compressor) is 25ms and not faster (e.g. 10ms or lower)? I'm going through the 2nd module of the How To Use Compression tutorials, where we have 'initialise' the compressor. WfC was the first one I loaded, then four others after noticing the release time on WfC; the other four (Cubase stock compressor, Venn Audio Free Compressor, Waves H-Comp and TDR Molotok) all had release times ranging between 0 and 10ms.

Also, you may want to remove the Spring Sale banner on the website.
gain stage (101 course)
I use ablethon no logic, to normalize the gain i need just to drop down the gain of each track individually at -10db ?

I believe there is a feature in Ableton called Consolidate, which allows you to set the normalisation level for selected events/clips.

@John Rowley Just got it. What I found interesting (in search of a better description) was that it's free on Plugin Alliance, but not on Mastering The Mix's website. Forgive me if this triggers a "Really, Simon?" facial expression from y'all, but I genuinely don't understand the logic in doing that. Steinberg did that last year with Backbone, i.e. gave it away on Plugin Boutique while still selling on their website.

IK Multimedia has a really sweet deal on its Total VI Max 2 bundle until April 30th.
Anatomy of a Compressor - Attack and Release
Great demonstration and explanation in the How To Use Compression tutorial. Made me realise I only thought I understood compression.

I love it! I understand what you mean about the snare sounding 'choked' but it actually works, because my ears were able to focus more on the syncopation, the bold guitars and, the bit that got me the most, the choice of time signatures. Even though I'm singer/songwriter first and even though rok is probably my least favourite genre, I love the experimental possibilities of instrumentals. This body of work strikes me as a successful set of experiments. And Yes, I'm definitely interested in that essay being broken down. Nice one, Rob.
