Gain Staging in Ableton Live
When using synths like Vital/Serum, some presets have the volume output already turned up (like 10 dB). For proper gain staging, should I:
A) Leave the synth as-is and use Utility after it to hit my target level (e.g. -7dB peak),
or
B) Normalize the synth output to 0 dB inside the plugin first, then gain stage from there?
Trying to keep levels consistent across sounds without affecting the tone, what’s the cleanest workflow?
