Gain Staging Debate: Session View or Arrangement View?
Quick question for everyone, what’s your preferred approach for initial gain staging for your individual tracks? Do you usually do it in Session View or Arrangement View, and why do you prefer one over the other? I’ve been debating this with a few producer friends and curious to hear different perspectives.
Gain Staging Debate: Session View or Arrangement View?

@Tom Baldwin, good question. For initial gain staging, some people prefer not using linear (Arrangement) view because Session View lets you focus purely on levels without being distracted by the timeline or arrangement. It’s more about quickly balancing elements in isolation and getting a clean starting point. Once that’s set, you can move to Arrangement View to refine things in context.

@Tom Baldwin Yeah, I’m talking about Ableton Live specifically. In Live, Session and Arrangement View share the same tracks, and the mixer is available in both, so you can see the track meters and volume levels either way. One of my buddy’s said Session View just feels a bit cleaner for him for initial balance because he can focus on the meters, including peak and RMS, without getting distracted by the whole timeline. That said, I totally get your point too. Seeing the full track from start to finish and then adjusting the problem spots is a very logical workflow, so I think it really comes down to whichever view helps you get a solid first balance faster. I actually work in Arrangement View most of the time as well, but I do get stuck sometimes with true peak and RMS levels during my final mixing stage , so Session View comes in handy for dialing that in.
Feature requests?
Hey guys, wanted to get some thoughts on how we could make this group (both free and paid membership) even better value for everyone. Post your ideas/requests below, and drop a like on the requests you like the most! Some prompts: - What could we START doing that we’re not already doing? - What could we do MORE of? - What features would you like to see added? - What do you get the most value from right now, and how could we make it even better? Obviously can’t make any promises in terms of following through on every suggestion, but I can promise that your suggestions will all be considered and we heavily weight user feedback when thinking about improvements.

Hi Rob, great initiative. Here are my 2 suggestions. 1. A dedicated track feedback space or weekly feedback thread would be huge. Since this is a mixing and mastering community, getting focused feedback on WIPs would help members turn their tracks into release-ready versions much faster. 2. A more strategic addition would be structured mix breakdowns or track teardowns from members and pros. Seeing the actual decision-making behind a strong mix would give a lot of people a clearer roadmap to follow.
New release from Citygate Creative Studios
Guys, we are a Christian studio here in Poole - this track/single is our first release - I/we completely get the fact that not all have a Christian faith - I am simply sharing and am risk sharing this for your feedback and opinions https://open.spotify.com/track/12lmxNiG4zHFbkyTwESwDM?si=RsGq2e0jS4GzTxXs1MbzuQ Thank you in advance- love to all Shaun

Really respect you putting this out there. The vocals are really nice and honestly kept me captivated till the end of the track. Music has no limitations or boundaries, it’s all about expression, and you delivered that well here. Great work on your first release, keep going 👊

@Shaun Fothergill Ahh got it, that makes sense! Either way, really solid release and you can tell there’s experience behind it. Glad you shared it, looking forward to hearing more from you guys 🙌
Focusing on Moog Minimoog Now!
Today I begin my deep dive into the Moog Minimoog synthesizer! I have a feeling there’s someone out there who uses it every day… knows it very well… If you are that mysterious wizard, then I’m your student. If you’re not, welcome, let's be confused together. Let this new adventure begin! Today I already learned that it's monophonic, designed to produce: thick bass or fat leads. It follows signal chain: SOUND CREATION -> SOUND SHAPING -> VOLUME SHAPING

Love this approach, diving deep into one synth really builds strong fundamentals. The Minimoog seems amazing for understanding pure subtractive synthesis and getting those thick, character-driven sounds. I’ve mostly been using Serum though since it gives a lot more flexibility and control for modern production, especially with wavetables and sound variety. Feels like Minimoog teaches the “why”, while Serum helps execute faster workflow

@Luiza Milenova Absolutely, and that is exactly why learning a synth deeply is so valuable. Serum does not fully replace the Moog character, but it can cover a very wide range of sounds and get you surprisingly close in many cases, especially for modern production. Moog has its own unique tone and workflow, so both are useful in different ways
So for those of you that have nothing better to do at the weekend....
What about sharing the song you wished you wrote. Mine is My Funny Valentine by Rogers and Hart

I’d say Innerbloom by Rufus Du Sol. The emotion, progression, and atmosphere in that track are just on another level. It’s one of those songs that feels simple on the surface but is so powerful when everything comes together.
