Gracie Barra
Has anyone trained at a Gracie Barra Gym? I'm going to take a trial class tomorrow because I have always wanted to try them out. I am very aware that some folks think they are kind of the "Big Box Store" of Jiu-jitsu (other than GU) but I'm excited for the class
Building My Gracie Garage 🥋 | Share Your Home Gym Setups
Having my own martial arts school has always been a dream. 🦁 Of course, a garage is not an academy but it's one of the first steps toward making that dream a reality. The goal is to create a small, safe training space where I can: ✅ Drill fundamentals ✅ Get more reps ✅ Train with trusted friends Right now, I’m deep in the setup phase: - Choosing between 1.25”, 1.5”, or 1.875” mats - Deciding whether to add a subfloor for safety on concrete - Balancing budget, durability, and long-term growth I’ve been reading reviews, watching setup videos, and talking with other garage owners to avoid expensive mistakes. This isn’t about building the perfect gym on day one. It's about starting small, starting safe, and starting now. Once it’s ready, I’ll share photos, costs, and lessons learned for anyone thinking about doing the same. Shoutout to Kyle 🔎 @Kyle Blay , you posted your setup in the check-in thread and it looks solid! 💪 What mats are you using? How thick are they? Do you feel like they are safe for takedowns on concrete? I am trying to decide between 1.25” vs. 1.5" vs. 1.875” mats, so any recommendations would really help. I'm mostly concerned about double legs and rear takedowns and such. Thanks in advance! 🥋 Your Turn Do you have a home gym or training space? - What mats are you using? - Do you train takedowns at home? - Any setup tips or lessons learned? Drop your setups, pics, and recommendations below so we can build something everyone can learn from. 🥋🏠
Supplements?
I started taking BCAA and Creatine. Noticably less sore after hard workouts. Anybody else take supps? I never have before but they seem to help.
For the aspiring blue belts
I thought this was a great video by one of John Danaher's best students & competitors. https://youtu.be/ik67r-xYpk8?si=tjF-Od8Oiylik-hN
