US is building a new global alliance
The administration of Donald Trump is building a new alliance to counter emergent threats and influence from repressionist regimes. The administration has signaled that many of our cold war allies have lost their way. This was called out in a speech by JD Vance about 1 month after the beginning of President Trumps second term. On 14 February 2025, U.S. vice president JD Vance delivered a speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference. In his speech, Vance argued that Europe's principal danger came from erosion of democratic norms — especially censorship, suppression of dissent, and exclusion of populist voices — rather than threats from Russia or China. He criticized European Union leaders for actions such as annulling Romania's presidential election under claims of foreign interference and using "misinformation" laws to silence political opposition and using "misinformation" laws to silence political opposition. Vance warned that the U.S. would condition its support for Europe on whether its governments actually uphold free speech, press freedom, and political legitimacy. The administration has also been critical of the immigration policies of many European countries. “Europe, they want to be politically correct, and it makes them weak,” Trump said. “Europe is a different place. If that keeps going the way it’s going, in my opinion, many of those countries will not be viable countries any longer,” Trump said. “Their immigration policy is a disaster.” The administration has also been critical of allies that have not been spending appropriate amounts on defense. In many cases these countries have been too comfortable spending so little on defense because they are allied to the US and feel secure that the US will defend them. While spending too little on defense many of these countries have instead been spending the money on social programs, financing these programs on the back of US taxpayers. As the leader of the free world the president has been reversing similar censorship and immigration programs implemented under the Biden administration and has called on our allies to do the same. The ones that respond are welcome to join us in a new global alliance that will stand against tyrants and repression.
