Sadanand Dhume's latest piece explores the global stakes of the Iranian regime's potential collapse. In my contribution, I mentioned a crucial historical reality: Khomeini fundamentally viewed himself as an enemy of Iranian nationalism. The Islamic Republic was never designed to serve the nation state. Its foundational goal has always been to transcend borders and ignite an Islamic revolution wherever possible.
