Happy Atheist day!!!
I'm an atheist. But I definitely enjoy OLD monasteries and religious sites with archeological value. 2 years ago I visited the Geghard Monastery in Armenia.
The monastery was originally founded in the 4th century CE by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring. It is carved inside a cave.
The monastery became famous because of the relics it housed. Its full name, Geghardavank, meaning the Monastery of the Spear, originates from the spear that wounded Jesus during his Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, also known as Thaddeus. Apostles Andrew and John also donated relics in the 12th century.... ALLEGEDLY.
