Launching Apples, Rocks, and a New Drill
Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend! We had a blast up on Whidbey Island and spent part of the weekend teaching family and friends how to use a sling. It was really interesting to see how much easier it was for anyone who had already used a mace or practiced rope flow to pick up the mechanics. It’s all connected. Slinging uses the same circular mill patterns and body rotation to launch an object with a ton of force.
We had an apple tree with a bounty of small apples that were perfect for launching, plus a wide-open bay, so it was pretty much the perfect setup for letting people try it out safely.
It was a ton of fun, and it even inspired this week’s Drill of the Week, which is now up in the classroom!
I’m sharing a short highlight video, along with a longer video showing some of the “teaching” that was going on. And if anyone is interested, maybe we can plan a little group sling lesson one day!
