You never know where your next lead will come from. I found mine between the cereal and the avocados.
Yesterday, I ran into an old friend at the grocery store. This morning, I remembered his brother owned a small renovation business, so I gave him a call.
After a quick catch-up, I told him I wasn’t calling to sell anything. I simply explained what I’ve been up to — web design and lead generation — and asked:
“Do you know anyone who might benefit from a free digital marketing consultation?”
His reply?
“Yeah, what would a website cost — and what would it take to promote?”
After just a bit of explaining, I’ve got a meeting booked with him next week for a full audit of his current setup and promised to go into detail during the call.
Here’s the takeaway:
You don’t need to pitch. You just need to show up, offer value, and ask the right question. Friends, family, old classmates, mutuals — someone in your circle runs a business. And most of them could use help online.
✅ Message someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.
✅ Give a compliment. Tell them what you’re doing.
✅ Ask if they know someone who might need what you offer.
Then stop talking — and listen.
Worst case? You plant a seed.
Best case? You book a meeting.
Keep prospecting — and keep it warm.
