Did you see last night's game between the Rams and the Bears? Harrison Mevis, the 5'11 241 lb. kicker from Missouri belted a 42 yarder in the bitter cold of Soldier Field to advance the Rams to the NFC Championship game 20-17 in overtime! As a "replacement rookie kicker", it doesn't get much better than that!

Just thought I'd sing the praises of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, who just defeated the defending champion North Central Cardinals 24-14 in Canton, Ohio (Pro Football Hall of Fame Stadium) on a beautifully cold Sunday night... in January! It what might be called the last true bastion of amateur athletics, and it doesn't get much better than this. Two teams of "non-scholarship" athletes who give it there all for the love of the game. Not NIL, not prestige, not a ticket to the pros, but because they all love the game of football and simply want to compete against the very best, no matter the conditions. I try to keep all of my students focused on what their immediate goals are... and to be very honest about achieving them. But I am proof positive that sometimes the goal can go away, and then be transformed into something new. This video about Quinn Meinerz, a guard from DIII UW-Whitewater, who became an NFL Pro Bowl players is amazing. It reminded me of another player I played against from UW-La Crosse named Tom Newberry who was also an NFL Pro Bowler. Your really BIG DREAMS don't have to go away... but you will be better served by focusing on what you can do RIGHT NOW to be your best... AND ENJOY THE JOURNEY! Who knows where it may take you? 😄
