Rollout punting cross-field
Spiral punting can be hard. For high school specialists, a rollout or “rugby” style punt might be a quicker path to being effective on Friday nights. It doesn’t require you to be as exacting with technique and presents at least the threat of a run out of punt formation. Below is an added twist that @Ryan Schroeder played around with working on his own. A typical rollout punt goes to the strong side, or kicking leg side. But with a simple flip of the hips, you can show the strong side movement but go across the field. You have a chance to leave the return team and returner unsettled and reacting late. Give it a try at your next session.

Smacking that ball
Green Bay traded up to get Florida kicker Trey Smack in the 6th round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Whether or not he wins the job, it’s a far better selection than Anders Carlson in the sixth a few years ago. Smack was the No. 1 or 2 rated guy for most analysts. Carlson was a complete surprise and had a weak track record from 40+ yards. As luck would have it, six years ago he was in the same field goal group as @Ryan Schroeder at a national scholarship camp. While Ryan did fine, Smack was clearly among the elite even then. Enough so that I grabbed a clip from one of his kicks. This was the summer prior to his junior year in high school. It’s 40 yards I think, and he’s going off the ground. You can see how smooth it was. The elevation is exceptional. As a Packers fan, I’m excited to see him get his chance now.

Most TOTAL POINTS in a MONTH!
Big shout out to all who participated with posts, comments, LIKES and shares in our KICKING SKOOL! As you can see from the Leaderboard, we had over 110 points earned throughout the month! Most of any month since K-SKOOL started. Give yourselves a hand 🖐️! Instead of awarding an individual prize to @Ellis Wangelin our top point getter, (Ellis already has more than his fair share of Kickerscamp swag 🤪) ...I'm awarding a prize to the entire community... A CUSTOM 2026 NFL KICKERS POSTER (see attached). If you want a higher res file to print out, just DM me and I can send it to you. I took a little time, consulted ESPN and put together the first of it's kind, the entire NFL kicking line-up for all 32 teams. You'll see a face matched with their age, years experience, height and weight. This is as of today, but given the off season, you can bet there will be some different faces come this Fall! Lots of guys ask me, what's the average size of an NFL kicker. I usually say, "It's me... or it least it was me 40 years ago!" 🤣 AVERAGES: An average NFL kicker is typically about 6'1" tall, weighs 200 lbs, and at his best in his late from 25 to 30. For most college kickers, they'll never actually play in an NFL regular season game, but for those incredible few that make the roster, the average NFL career is just 3.3 years. ROOKIES: Lenny Krieg (NYJ) and Ryan Fitzgerald (CAR) are slated to start in 2026. LONGEST CAREER: Nick Folk (ATL) is still kicking 19 years in the league! YOUNGEST: Cam Little (JAC) is just 22 years old. OLDEST: Nick Folk (ATL) is 41. TALLEST: Harrison Butker (KC) & Charlie Smyth (NO) are 6'4 HEAVIEST: Matt Gay (NV) is 232 lbs. SHORTEST: Cairo Santos (CHI) is only 5/8. LIGHTEST: Jake Elliott (PHI) is just 167 lbs. One of the toughest professions on the planet... there are only 32 jobs in the world as an NFL kicker. I know, I was Mr. 39. 😭

@Ellis Wangelin The Kohls camp was a good experience but it was not an instruction camp. Charted 3 full sessions of FG, KO and P over two days. Well organized, esp. considering it was during Covid. He got to compete against the best in the country and understand where he really stood. The coaching/teaching camps like MFKC are where I think families should put more of their resources if a player wants to be their best, but a showcase has its place.

@Mike Farley omg … you mean the parts where I fall apart with nerves? All kidding aside, happy to share some stuff about all these experiences.
First 4-point field goal
A new UFL rule awards 4 points for a 60+ yard field goal. Here is the first one. Do you like this rule and should it be adapted anywhere else?https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWb2TP_kv5m/?igsh=MXYxdjB2cjRqbnplMw==

@Mike Farley there’s a good use of AI!

@Nash Rogness Could even see a case where a coach chooses not to try to advance to have the 4-point try, rather than work toward a TD still 40+ yards away.
Progress
Today I was looking back at some old film from October…and it’s crazy to me to think how far I have come. The first video that is attached was my last game of the season, looking back at it I thought my height was good, but it was just average, and the second video was me kicking just a few days ago with some of the pieces advice I’ve gotten from some of you. I am really exited to see what this summer brings with my progress and I hope to get even better from here!

@Mike Farley @Aiden Stoffel the images of the March kick shows a more confident and aggressive approach, which is likely to lead to more height and distance. You see a good lean back, which is a result of that approach. Seeing how close your kicking and plant legs are as you swing through is good; you lose distance when that gap is big. Wondering out loud if you need more live ops work to get that confidence to translate. Sometimes it’s harder if you don’t trust the other elements, but you have to learn.
