Lock Down Day
Time to lock down the incubator and increase the humidity. I'll make up a break down for any one wanting to incubate some eggs and wanting a quick guide to follow.

Day 6 in the incubator
The chicks are starting to develop, in this video I go over how to candle eggs and give a few tips about incubating chicken eggs.

Spring Chicken
Spring equals chicks and baby animals that's just a given. It's not something created by Cadbury to sell their easter candy, though they help (their so cute). Spring is a time of new beginnings, the buds on the trees, daffodils, pussywillows, and babies. I've filled the incubator with a dozen eggs and we have a hen sitting on a dozen eggs. In the future I'll do a master class on how to incubate eggs. It's on the list sourdough first, but keep you eye out for it if your interested in learning this skill.
Spring Chicken
Spring is in the air
Yap we're getting close and it can be felt, temperatures are starting to come up and the birds are getting frisky. Some of our 7 hens are laying and when I went out yesterday someone had eaten an egg!! There are 3 things I do to stop this from happening 1. Collect the eggs regularly, if they aren't there they can't eat them. 2. Make sure they are getting proper nutrients, they may need a calcium supplement. I like to give them back their egg shells that have been ground up, also considering giving them some fermented feed. 3. Keep an eye out for which chicken might be doing it so I can check their health status. A trail cam can help a lot with this, strategically se up with a good view of the nesting boxes. We want to eat the eggs not our chickens and this is a bad habit they can develop if you don't keep them in check. What tips might you have for this? Have you ever had problems with chickens eating their eggs?
