Spring is in the air
Yap we're getting close and it can be felt, temperatures are starting to come up and the birds are getting frisky. Some of our 7 hens are laying and when I went out yesterday someone had eaten an egg!!
There are 3 things I do to stop this from happening
  1. Collect the eggs regularly, if they aren't there they can't eat them.
  2. Make sure they are getting proper nutrients, they may need a calcium supplement. I like to give them back their egg shells that have been ground up, also considering giving them some fermented feed.
  3. Keep an eye out for which chicken might be doing it so I can check their health status. A trail cam can help a lot with this, strategically se up with a good view of the nesting boxes.
We want to eat the eggs not our chickens and this is a bad habit they can develop if you don't keep them in check.
What tips might you have for this? Have you ever had problems with chickens eating their eggs?
