@Sandi Johnson Ok... any fluffy soil will work... the pros I worked with use Coast of Maine; Ace Hardware and many garden centers carry it but really any fine fluffy seedling mix will be fine. How big is your container?

@Sandi Johnson ok... should be flat all the way across, not little pockets although I guess it really would not matter... pat the soil in tight... wet the soil... sprinkle the seed evenly... put a thin layer of media over seeds, I use vermiculite although seed starter fine... dampen the vermiculite... deep out of light until you see sprout and then put under light...
Make it yourself
What's something that you never buy anymore because you make or produce it yourself? For me it's lots of things but my #1 is meat. We raise a majority of our own meat, chicken, duck, and goats. We also fish and I preserve it. This is something I think all homesteaders should do because it such a beneficial food source. So how about you?

I agree Meat and Eggs... we are small and still regenerative clay ground so just chickens right now although as time permits, I could see expanding...
Recipes for the Community
So one of our community members has shared a collection of recipes from his wife. You guys should check it out, it's a gold mine, and give Hunter and his wife (does she have a name? I'm sure she does but I don't know it yetšŸ˜‰) some love https://www.hancockhale.com/recipes

Forward Thinking
What one homesteading skill you think will be the most valuable in the next 5-10 years? I definitely think gardening but maybe preserving too. I think it's important to take the time to learn what you can grow for the most nutritional value. Squash are definitely top of my list and potatoes. I can leave potatoes in the ground here and dig them all winter. What do you think, what homesteading skill would you pick and do you currently practice this skill?

Tough question to just pick one… definitely any thing self reliance… those relying on others may be unpleasantly surprised… we are definitely a spoiled nation
