Well, it’s been a minute since I was in here last. We got our corn and squash in again. The rabbits have been getting us. Anyways we put these little cages around all the new spots where we put seeds in. We got tomato 🍅 plants: red beefsteaks, pink brandywine, & black prince. The black prince is suppose to have a slight purple tint color to the skins and the meat part of the tomatoes. Next will be beets and replace one cherry tree that a deer ate last year. We used miracle grow soil for where the seeds go so it’s not hard for them to push thru my dirt.

If your starting seeds this year here is a poting soil mix I use, it's a game changer. 1 3.8 bag of promix, the one that's for seed starting so it's nice and fine. 5 gallon bucket of good fine compost, I use my own but you could purchase some. 6 cups bone meal, you should be able to buy this from any hardware store or nursery. In the future I'll show you how to make your own. 2 1/4 cups blood meal, same as the bone meal you can find this one easily and if your slaughtering your own meat on your farm you can also make this yourself and save the extra cost. 3 cups kelp meal, local hardware store or nursery. In turn you could probably purchase all of these things online. All you do is mix them together well, make sure to start with dry soil so it mixes better, then wet it and fill your containers. This is way better then any miracle grow garbage you can buy and its all natural. Your seedlings will flourish and giving them a better start makes them stronger healthier plants overall. Full disclosure this is not my recipe I got it from Floret Flowers, go check them out at www.floretflowers.com or on facebook.

It's definitely time!!
If your green thumb is starting to itch scratch it! Did you know onion seeds need to be started 10-12 weeks before you last average frost date? And it also a great time to start some cooler weather crops like lettuce and bock choy. Set up a simple nursery area, a table or shelf will do, somewhere warm. I have mine in my living room because I have a good space for it and it's best for me to keep an eye on them. I use a heat mat which I definitely recomend, mine is big enough for 4 10×20 grow trays. Something to grow in, if you don't want to spend money egg cartons work well, just make sure to keep them moist because they dry out fast. Then some potting soil, I use pro mix, seeds, and lables. A lid on top of these will help keep the soil moist, I also keep a spray bottle on hand and spray them a couple times a day. Get your seeds in the dirt and in a few days to a week, or longer depending on what your growing you'll see them poke out of the soil.

Your favorite crop to grow
So soon we'll be sticking seeds in dirt and growing food to sustain us through the year. I'm wondering what everyone's favorite things to grow are? If you grow a garden that is. Let's list 3 of our favorite thing to grow Mine are 1. Squash, I love to grow all kinds of squash small sugar pumpkins, butternut squash, zucchini, cucumbers, They always grow so well and produce so much. 2. Carrots, there's nothing more satisfying then pulling a carrot from the dirt and the flavor is nothing you could get from the store. 3. Sunflowers, they're so pretty and they just make me happy. I never really harvest the seeds, I like to leave them for the birds. What about you what are your 3 favorite things to grow, and if you've never gardened but want to, what would be your top 3 things to grow.
