💚 Why I Don’t Rush Young Horses...
...but I do suggest starting to get things done, implemented and understood as young as possible. Why? Because they need the time to understand. So the sooner things are explained to them, the sooner they will understand compared to for example, others who were not. Speed creates reactions sure, might even look like the finished product but it rarely is and shows up later, whereas time creates understanding, and confidence and lower expectations being met with good ones. A young horse who is allowed to grow into their work, physically and mentally becomes the horse who lasts. And longevity will always matter more than quick results. What’s something you’re choosing not to rush right now? 🐴✨🫶

Dentist help
Hey all, I'm feeling a bit meh. I had the Equine dentist out today and took along my daughter to hold the ponies due to my injury 🙄. Breeze has regular checks so it is not new to her, she can be a fidget but I let her drift a bit to let off some of the nervous energy as it can't be a nice thing for them. Today the dentist who is a lovely, calm guy has a back injury and I (as us empaths do) could feel him getting angry and frustrated, she was backing up a bit and clearly worried. I called a halt on it by saying the vet was due to take her wolf tooth out next month so I'll ask them to do it whilst she is sedated. I feel awful as Breeze was worried and I don't feel I have prepared her well enough to cope with it. This is on the back of a week where the farrier came and Breeze nipped her (I wasn't there) and she got told off 😬I need to think of some ways to help her manage with all these essentials and for us both to feel confident that someone else can stand in for me and all will be well. Has anyone got any great methods - I was wondering about using my feed stirrer which is long and rasp shaped and using some apple sauce and seeing if I can get her confident about having it run over her teeth. She is no problem to worm at all as we used a similar method. Thanks all 😊
When to do liberty verses groundwork during a session?
Quick question to all ....following my video yest... I loved doing a bit of both so little one enjoys learning the lead rope but when I sensed him struggling with my ask of the rope...,stood staring at me...I took the rope off and returned to his safe space of liberty..following my finger/hand. Liberty was always trained first with him! Am I right??? I know I need to do lead rope to be safe but I am so very pulled to liberty. He connects so much better. Do I just forget trying to ride him for grandchildren and just play at liberty for now as got another 2/3 years before they ride him????

A little snippet from today
Breeze so wants to do something so the past couple of days we have done a couple of minutes of groundwork each day. I wondered how she would be with me sat down as that is new for her but she is coping well and her curiosity about the crutches is still Going strong 😂

Todays lesson- rope and leading
Storm did so well today.. one full hour lesson using lead rope, new head collar and asking him to follow. He listened well and understood. I am stronger on one side than the other so need to really work on this as I confused him. I need to learn to be more concise when asking him to prevent this. I am so used to using liberty/my hand I am re learning myself too!!! ☺️ I will do some more tomor before I go back to work Thurs, so will see how he responds... practice makes perfect 👌🏻 Also worked on his first pole too and figure of 8 walking around the blocks which was amazing considering 2 wks ago he would not follow me/planted himself as he was unsure. Today he actually looked at the head collar/rope and knew it was time for us to do something...a small win which I personally think is fabulous for little one 🐴💫
