🎧 HOW to get good with horses…
👉 Podcast highlight number 15 - this episode is close to my heart because it’s simple…but powerful. The secret to getting good with horses? Don’t sit still. Have a plan but keep it flexible. Allow rest periods but always return with intention. If your horse spooks, let it go. Don’t build a story around it. If you feel like you can do more, don’t second-guess yourself - step forward. And if you need support, ask. There’s no strength in struggling alone. Getting good isn’t about perfection. It’s about momentum, reflection, and staying in the game. If this message resonates, maybe share the podcast with someone who needs to hear it. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: great horses and honest partnerships. 👉 You can listen on your favorite podcast app or directly on my website here: https://www.getgoodwithhorsescourses.com/podcast/ And I’d love to know, what’s one thing you’ve done recently that moved you forward instead of holding you back? with love, Zoë 🐴✨🫶

@Tony Sigtermans-Keijzer I’m glad you said that out loud. When you’re feeling a bit lost, that’s usually your system asking for space. First, I must ask, are you okay? Is it just one of those heavy weeks? Taking a step back isn’t failure. With horses (and life), sometimes the most productive move is to pause and then step forward again. The horses don’t mind. They meet us where we are. If this week is about rest and small wins, let it be that. 🐴✨🫶

@Maddie Pemberton oh nice, with you there 🤩
💚 Why I Don’t Rush Young Horses...
...but I do suggest starting to get things done, implemented and understood as young as possible. Why? Because they need the time to understand. So the sooner things are explained to them, the sooner they will understand compared to for example, others who were not. Speed creates reactions sure, might even look like the finished product but it rarely is and shows up later, whereas time creates understanding, and confidence and lower expectations being met with good ones. A young horse who is allowed to grow into their work, physically and mentally becomes the horse who lasts. And longevity will always matter more than quick results. What’s something you’re choosing not to rush right now? 🐴✨🫶

Dekota did good she stood to let me pick out her foot then we had an extra challenge which we did not plan for and she passed cleaned her hooves with the pick when i get to the right she i dont know if she loses balance or if she get a fright when the sand or something touches her and pulls away but the ultimate test was when we didnt see the branch on the sand and her leg got held up with the branch and she stood like a champ this is closer to the end if the video so two wins today definatly progress i did not expect her to remain that calm when her leg got stuck it just shows we are doing soemthing right yaaay

@Jessica Enslin Very good, well done 🤩 I have two little pointers for you. First, I can see she’s still holding some tension even when you’re just standing there. So let’s make that part of the training too. Sometimes simply stand at her shoulder and do nothing. Sometimes stand at her hip, lean on her lightly, breathe, relax… and do nothing. I call these comfort spots, horses have them all over their bodies and well right now she needs most of them covered. They are standing by and relaxing at the: Front of the horse head Jaw - side of the horses head (both sides) Neck (both sides) Shoulder (both sides) Ribs (both sides) Hip (both sides) Hindquarters (both sides) Tail (both sides) If she learns that your position beside her doesn’t always mean “I’m about to pick up your foot,” the anticipation will start to fade. Second, before you bend down to ask for the leg, make sure she’s truly relaxed with you by her shoulder. When we fold over like that, it can feel slightly predatory to a horse, and it can also trigger them to shift or move their feet. So pause, soften, wait for that exhale…then ask. Two wins today. Bank those. This is exactly how confidence gets built, rarely in perfect sessions, but in real-life moments handled well 🐴✨🫶
