A crazy idea... who's in?
I am a huge fan of getting uncomfortable.
Why?
Because the more discomfort you (intentionally) endure, the more you grow your comfort zone.
Want to get stronger? Push through uncomfortable workouts.
Terrified of public speaking but want to become a speaker? Take to the stage and get uncomfortable.
Want a deeper, more meaningful relationship but scared to be vulnerable? Practice opening up.
I learned just how true this is in 2023 when I went to a leadership bootcamp in Namibia (that's in Africa, in case you didn't know).
I went by myself, without knowing anyone.
I went with a group of men—and before this was recovering from a masculine wound. I didn't do well befriending men in my past.
Especially the kind of men a leadership bootcamp on the backs of motorcycles in Africa attracted.
On that trip, I faced massive amounts of discomfort:
Working out in full motorcycle attire in the desert heat.
Sitting in the ocean, getting blasted in the face by waves repeatedly at 5 AM before the sun came up in 50 degree weather.
Putting a tourniquet on someone—and having one put on me.
It very much felt like a trip where I left a boy, and came back a man. I saw what I was capable of.
So here's my idea...
Let's have a Focus Founders "Day of Discomfort" where we all get really uncomfortable—together—for an entire day.
We work out outside in the heat.
We sit and work together and hold each other accountable to getting more done in a day than we have in weeks, not allowing each other to be distracted.
We get in a cold plunge.
We get vulnerable and bare our souls in authentic relating.
And we cap it off with a dip in Barton Springs and a giant dinner in celebration.
