Problems we try to solve for (or at least minimize)
The Problems We try to Solve for — Festival & Space Maker Network "If its free then theres a chance you are the product and you are being mined" 1. Meta is Built for Addiction — Not Community Meta designs everything around infinite scroll, dopamine hits, engineered outrage, and behavioral tracking. People feel fried, overstimulated, unseen, and manipulated. They’re not addicted to the app—they’re addicted to human connection, and Meta hijacks that instinct. We create a space where community > algorithm. 2. Artists and Promoters Get Buried by Algorithms Meta punishes niche artists, long-form content, and local events. Promoters work hard and still only reach a tiny fraction of their audience. We create a space where contribution and creativity are actually seen. 3. Local Culture Is Suffocated by Global Noise Island culture gets drowned out by global political extremes, influencer drama, and clickbait. We build a community where local identity and creativity thrive. 4. Social Media Encourages Shallow Engagement Meta trains people to consume, not contribute. Creativity gets lost. We build a culture where participation and contribution are the norm. 5. Community Builders Are Exploited Promoters, artists, and cultural leaders fuel Meta’s engagement engine while Meta collects the data and the money. We keep the value inside the community instead of giving it away. 6. People Are Craving Real Community Again People feel isolated, burnt out, and overwhelmed. They crave belonging, meaning, and creativity. We create a container that restores human connection instead of distorting it. The Festival & Space Maker Network exists to create a community-centered alternative built for Vancouver Island’s creative ecosystem, where culture, contribution, and collaboration come first.
