What questions would you like answered?
60-Minute Hands-On Agenda (for total beginners)
0–5 min — How to get into Sales Navigator
  1. From LinkedIn, click For Business (top right) → Sales Navigator
  2. Or go directly: linkedin.com/sales (log in with your LinkedIn).
  3. Pick/confirm your plan or trial, then you’ll land on the Home / Alerts page.
  4. Pin it for next time: bookmark the URL.
5–10 min — One-time setup (so results look right)
  • Settings (top right gear) → Preferences
  • Save. These act as default hints; you can change filters anytime.
10–25 min — Basic searches (leads first, then accounts)
A) Lead Search (people)
  1. Click Search (top) → choose Leads.
  2. Use these beginner filters (left side):
  3. Press Show results.
  4. Open a result in a new tab to view the full profile (keeps your list).
Save a lead: hover the result → click Save → + Save to list → Create new list (e.g., “US-MKT Directors-Sept”). Done.
Save the search (optional): click Save search (top right of results) → name it (e.g., “MKT Dir US 11-200”) → you’ll get alerts when new matches appear.
B) Account Search (companies)
  1. Click Search → choose Accounts.
  2. Filters to try:
  3. Show results → Save any good company to an Account List (create one if needed).
  4. Click into an account → People tab to see recommended contacts, then Save those people as leads.
25–35 min — Lists, notes, and tags (organize your work)
  • Create a list while saving (above) or from Lists in the top nav:
  • Move/add multiple leads to a list: in a results page, tick boxes → Save to list.
  • Notes & Tags:
35–45 min — Messaging basics (Connect vs InMail)
  • Connect (free): On a lead’s profile, click Connect → Add a note (300 chars).
  • InMail (uses credits): Click Message/InMail → compose.
Where to find replies:
  • Replies land in LinkedIn Messaging (not inside Sales Nav) and trigger Sales Nav Lead Alerts if it’s a saved lead.
45–55 min — Alerts & “what changed” views
  • Home → Alerts shows updates for Saved Leads and Saved Accounts:
  • Click an alert to open the lead/account and act (comment, connect, InMail).
  • Tuning alerts: Remove noisy leads/accounts from lists or unsave them.
  • Saved searches alerts: Click Saved searches (top) → toggle email/notification cadence.
55–60 min — Quick tour of common spots
  • Lists (top) → see all your Lead and Account lists.
  • Search (top) → switch between Leads and Accounts anytime.
  • Settings → Admin (if on team plans) → see Smart Links/TeamLink (just show where they live; skip strategy).
  • Help ? (top right) → built-in tutorials.

Live Exercises (do them in class)
  1. First lead search: Find “Marketing Director” in “United States,” company size 51–200 → Save 3 leads to a new list.
  2. First account search: Find Software companies 51–200 in United States → Save 2 accounts → open one account → People tab → Save 2 recommended contacts.
  3. First note & tag: Open one saved lead → add a Note (“met at XYZ webinar”) and Tag (“NYC”).
  4. First message: Send a Connect with a short note (don’t use InMail unless you want to show the button).
  5. Alerts tour: Go Home → Alerts → click one alert and show how to act from it.
Common Beginner Gotchas (and fixes)
  • “Why are results weird?” You may still be in Accounts when you want Leads (or vice-versa). Switch at the top.
  • “I can’t find Save to list.” On result cards: hover → Save. On the profile page: Save near the headline.
  • “Where are my messages?” InMail/Connect replies are in LinkedIn Messaging, not a separate Sales Nav inbox.
  • “No InMail button?” Some profiles require Connect or Open Profile status; InMail appears when available.
  • “Too few results?” Loosen filters (remove seniority or company size; try broader titles).
  • “Too many results?” Add Seniority, Title in quotes, Geography, or Company headcount.
