John 6:40 is a beautiful verse about Jehovah’s purpose for those who exercise faith in Jesus. “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him at the last day.” — John 6:40 The verse highlights three important thoughts: 1. “This is the will of my Father” Jesus was not presenting his own idea. He was explaining Jehovah’s will and purpose. Jehovah wants obedient humans to have the opportunity to live forever. 2. “Recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him” Faith involves more than simply believing that Jesus existed. To “recognize” Jesus means acknowledging his role in Jehovah’s purpose and then demonstrating faith by listening to him and putting his teachings into practice. It is like recognizing a trustworthy guide. You don't merely accept that he knows the way—you follow his directions. 3. “I will resurrect him at the last day” Jesus gives a firm promise: those who exercise faith in him have the hope of resurrection. Death is therefore not necessarily the end of a person's future. Jehovah, through Jesus, can restore life. The context is especially encouraging. Earlier, Jesus said that he had come down from heaven to do, not his own will, but the will of the One who sent him (John 6:38). So John 6:40 shows that resurrection and everlasting life are not merely possibilities Jesus hoped for—they are part of his Father's purpose. A key lesson for us today is: Faith in Jesus is demonstrated by the way we live, and that faith gives us a solid hope for the future.

When we pray, we must have faith that we will receive what we pray for. We can't allow our circumstances, situations, and difficulties to get in the way when we pray. This means that God is able to answer our prayers. No matter how bad or dire the situation looks. But, we must have faith that God will answer our prayers. It is not for us to know how God will answer our prayers. But, it is our job to have faith and believe. So, let us be confident that God not only hears but will answer our prayers.

“If anyone does not want to work, neither let him eat.” — 2 Thessalonians 3:10 Paul was addressing Christians who were refusing to work while expecting others to support them. The surrounding verses show that he was encouraging a responsible, orderly way of life. A helpful companion scripture is 2 Thessalonians 3:12, where Paul urges such ones “to work quietly and eat food they themselves earn.” So the principle is not simply “everyone must have a job.” It is that a person should willingly contribute and take responsibility rather than deliberately living off the efforts of others. It’s like a household where everyone is capable of carrying part of the load: if someone refuses to help but still expects everyone else to provide for them, the arrangement becomes unfair.

Love is a word that carries a lot of weight. We often use it without thinking or precaution. To know God is to know what love is all about. Love gives, as Jesus was given to die for our sins. Love from God tells us to love our neighbors well. We can't say that we love God but don't care for or have compassion for our neighbors. The challenge for all of us is to love God with all of our hearts and to love our neighbors without expecting anything in return from them.
