Hey Rob and all, would love some of your expert advice tuning my pickup!
Goal: enough power to haul a trailer full of cows down the highway at 75, with enough manners to not black anyone out getting there. Usable low end power is what I’m after, and I have the opposite 😅
l've had it for over ten years and fired every shot of the parts cannon I can find and I'm still not there. It's got plenty of top end power, but the low end is absolutely atrocious and no matter what I do I can't get rid of the smoke. Turbos don't spool until roughly 1800 rpm and anything under that is a luggy mess.
Once I hit 2k it drives pretty good, but it's pain to keep it that high around town or pulling a trailer. Max boost is 45ish at WOT, but I never get there in normal driving. 25-30 is the most it usually sees.
Mods:
DPS stage 1 compounds. 362/475.
THD 6 x 11.5 injectors
Hamilton towing cam
Head studs/valve springs/pushrods
HVLP lift pump
M&H Timing spacer
Ratman DV’s
Ratman fuel pin
3200 rpm spring
NV4500
Water/meth but not really using it
Pump settings:
Smoke screw: all the way backed out.
Starwheel: almost all the way backed out.
Power screw: 7 full threads showing. Recently backed it out 2 full turns to help smoke.
Definitely lost some top end though.
Timing: somewhere in the middle, hopefully around stock but there’s multiple marks so unsure exactly. I have adjusted the timing to every 1/8” from the head the slots allow and it never gets noticeably better than where it’s at.
What I’d like to do: figure out how to run smaller compounds like a k27/369 but not sure my budget and fab skills will cooperate. Other ideas include figuring out how to make an s300g work as the manifold charger. Also does it need different injectors because people say Eric’s just run dirty? What would you do?
Anyway, all the advice is much appreciated, and I’d also be interested in buying a smaller compound kit or piping that would work if anyone has stuff they’ve made! Thanks!
