this is another email i wrote please review it and I hope it gives you a new perspective about addiction
The fate of your life and goals are dependent on your ability to control one thing…
dopamine.
But how does that relate to your addiction?
To understand this, you need to imagine a scale that has a baseline which is your normal happy self but…
Each time you engage in your addiction, dopamine spikes above baseline & what happens…
You drop down the baseline once you stop doing that behavior as price for that pleasure,
Because your brain always seeks to maintain that homeostasis (baseline level).
As the psychiatrist ANNA LEMBKE says ‘’nothing comes for free’’,
You’re not addicted to the pleasure your addiction gives you rather…
You’re addicted to avoiding the discomfort of being below baseline.
because your state is the opposite of what you would be when you are pleasurable,
you're overwhelmed with your emotions, blaming & bashing out yourself,
So what you usually do is…
You indulge in that addiction again in an attempt to shoot you back above baseline.
And the problem here is…
The more you engage in your addiction the less dopamine it gives the more it’s going to shoot you below baseline => the more depressed you are...
The more you have to do it => leading to what you have addiction.
And that is the exact reason that you can't sit in front of the pc for 30 minutes to work towards your goal,
Because work will not get you out of that discomfort of being in a dopamine deficit.
But there is always a solution…
& I’m going to share them with you in after tomorrow's email
They are the exact systems & steps I followed to break free from my 3 years of addictions.
Stay tuned.
