(READ THIS?) Ben's Introduction for CopySkills
Hey all! Thought I'd pop in and chat abit about myself so we're not strangers! I'm Ben (the guy with the big nose on the poster)- and I'm a massive marketing nerd. A very happy one too... which is a funny thing to say considering most marketers still end up pulling their own hair out over how to order letters even after they get their hands on Schwartz's Breakthrough Advertising... Aside from marketing bits I love boxing (go watch Raging Bull it's genuinely so good) and painting naked women... which is actually a pretty aesthetic combo now I think of it... Either way they don't have anything to do with marketing so that's why I'm mentioning them at the start of this spiel.... ...Before I start talking and can't stop 😛 Picked up Copywriting about a year and a half ago now from the best sales call of my life... Like genuinely. Nobody else was in that room- that guy on THAT webinar was talking directly to ME... I remember booking this special moment from one of those Instagram lead-gen ads- like the ones that have the guy with the Lambo and the hot girls and the shiny watches... I did say "the best sales call"- didn't I? It talked money and I wanted money... -Still do frankly- Anyway, I'd propped up my iPhone 6 on some books in my room for the private event (4000 attendees) and began the ordeal. Told my mum I was on a "business call" and remember locking myself in my room and watching the livestream under the covers... Wasn't exactly an exclusive "black-tie" - but for what it's worth, it felt like it... And I didn't know it at the time- but in those 25 minutes I'd subconsciously had a whole Duel of the Fates with the guy who I'd been for 18 years until that point. Funny how one small decision can spur your life in a whooooole different direction when you decide to take action. Anyway, long story short- mr. guru was kind enough to exchange my $699 for some sacred online documentation on how to "whitelabel his marketing services so I never even needed to learn marketing."

Copy Translation
Hey everyone! So I've been going through the Copywriter Starter Kit and got to the Copy Translation part. I also started an email swipe, but since I wanted to make an exercise today I went into reallygoodemails.com and took one from there hahaha I want to share my breakdown here, if anyone else is working on this I'd love to hear your thoughts! and maybe we can start a thread and share our daily analysis or smth? For this one I managed to find all 8 key elements, although there wasn't a lot of "Safe" or "Ultra-Specific" in there.. just specific. Sharing this as screenshots so I can share the color-coding as well.

First major client project live!
Here’s what I learned… After a bunch of back and forth meetings tweaking and changing the copy and design my very first website is actually live in v1! Designed, wireframed, built and wrote the copy for the site myself so was super exciting to see it finally live… But I did learn something pretty interesting working with this specific client Now this client in particular has had NO marketing… like, ever in the history of their time existing as a company- ever done on them This means no ads, no emails, no “book a call’s” and almost no social media presence whatsoever In fact you’d be a damn good detective finding them organically So, naturally they felt the need to level up from the bundle of stock images and technically excellent but mind numbingly boring copy their had on their site… And it started off great! I’d do site revisions- email the client- review- make changes… It was a positive feedback loop and pretty attainable too But then uni poked its fat head round the corner and came a-whispering something about final year exams… So the project dragged… work was took on by me when I’d agreed to fufill the responsibility of my degree at the same time and I’ll confess I made a lapse of judgement… Now fortunately they were in no rush to get the site live… (I mean would you if you didn’t know what marketing was?) but that hit was still on me, and paved the path for something much more sinister to take place… Now this sinister thing started a few weeks back… I sent the design to the client of their new homepage- closed my laptop and reached for a coffee Typical break- was reading a biography on Michelangelo- really f*cking impressive man. I’d suggest a read So 2 hours pass and my phone vibrates -pick it up And read this: “Here is a list of feedback for corrections: 1. The Headline of the homepage should be our company mission statement… 2. get rid of alternating between bold and normal text on our text-heavy bullets…” And this went on for about 12 “corrections”

The answer to your questions...
Hey Copywriting Launchpad! Recently, I gave everyone on the copywriting.org email list an opportunity to Ask Me Anything… As I went through the many replies, I realised so many copywriters right here in Launchpad share the same questions.Enjoy! ⤵️ “How do I get good at copywriting? “ If you want to get good enough to confidently offer your services and charge premium rates, you need to do three things. First, find good copy to study it. Break it down into structures that you can use again and again. And if you’re struggling, then ask yourself “what are they doing in this section, and why?” This way you will keep building a deep understanding of the craft. Focus less on research, and more on breaking down WHY copy works so you can replicate. (I’ve already built this for you in Copy Systems™ where hundreds of copywriters are enjoying clear systems to write every type of copy. But you can also just do it yourself.) Second, take action aggressively. Copywriting is like any other high-paid skill - it's not easy. Anyone who told you it’s easy, needed to sell you their course. You need to put the reps in. There's no shortcut around this. Also go out there and offer your services. The best way to get better is to do some actual work for a business. Third, get a mentor. Someone who can chief your copy, show you where to improve, and expose your blind spots. A good mentor can solve a problem for you in a single conversation which might take you months to figure out on your own. “How do I land my first client?” If you're asking this, you're right at the beginning of your copywriting career. The good news is you don't need to be a master to start landing clients. You just need to get good enough at one type of in-demand copy so you can deliver quality work consistently. So make sure you’re showing up like a pro with a clean CV & portfolio, professional looking profile pic, plus a clean appearance and audio when on calls. Then identify what sort of business owners you want to work with, figure out where they go to find copywriters, and reach out to them and their team directly (I share the best way to do this below.)
