THIS IS WHY SOME SPACES JUST FEEL RIGHT (AND OTHERS DON’T) 🍷
PICTURE THIS (NAH REALLY, PICTURE IT) 🍷 🍻 🥤
You’re walking down your local high street. You’re not in a rush. You’re half present, half in your head, probably half scrolling cute dogs, on your phone, munching on a pasty, thinking about absolutely naff all and everything at the same time.
And then… something makes you slow your step without you even realising you’ve done it.
There’s this bar. You’ve either never seen it before or you’ve walked past it a hundred times and today it just… hits different.
And you don’t think “wow what a strong brand identity” because like duh who actually thinks that in real life. (Well, unless you're on a brand research day, maybe hmmm)
You think something more like… ooooh. Hang on. That looks like totes my vibe. What’s going on in there then?
⬆THIS IS THE CONTENT BIT (OBVS MAYBE NOT…)
The bar literally stops you in your tracks. You don’t fully know why yet. It's just something about it. It’s a feeling.
Maybe the lighting looks inviting. The sign feels a bit cheeky. There’s music leaking out. There’s laughter. There’s an energy that feels like “yeah… oooffff I’d probably like this place”.
You just feel pulled without having to explain it. (You know what I am talking about right?)
So you step a tad closer. Not committing. Not deciding anything yet. Just being a nosy Parker, please let's confess we ALL are… (just some of us will own up to not)
You sneak a peek through the window. You scan the menu stuck on the wall. You read the chalkboard. And inside your head you’re muttering things like… yeah I like this a lot. oooooh this feels different. Ok this looks like my kind of shizzle.
I don’t know why but I want to know more more more…
⬆ THIS IS THE COMMENT (SMALL BUT IMPORTANT)
That diddy moment right there is the comment. Not a big a$$ declaration. Not “I’m in!”. Just interested. Curiosity. A tiny signal. A toe dipped in. Nothing OTT, but it totes matters.
Then someone inside clocks you. Not in a salesy pounce-you way, pfffft to dat.
Just a human noticing another human. NICE… Someone behind the bar catches your eye, gives you that half-smile like… hey there 👋
They pop their head out and say something NORMAL. HUMAN. FRIENDLY. Like, hey, welcome. First time here? Feel free to have a look. No rush, just shout if you need anything. And honestly phew… thank dog.
Because nothing sends you power-walking away faster than pressure 😥
⬆ CONVERSATION (WHERE THINGS ACTUALLY SHIFT)
So you start to relax. You feel seen but not hunted. And you start chatting away. Light kinda stuff. Real human stuff. Oh yeah I was just passing. I’ve not seen this place before. (Do you have a dog, tee tee had to sneak this in) It looks really nice in here actually.
And they reply like a human, not a Borasaurus script. Yeah, we’re a bit tucked away. We like it more relaxed. Same sort of faces tend to find us.
And something shifts in you. You’re not just observing now. You feel comfortable. Safe-ish. CURIOUS in a good way.
So you make your first tiny move. You take that step inside. That’s it. That’s the commitment. Not buying the whole fricken bar. Not signing your life away. Just STEPPING IN. Choosing to stay a bit longer.
They keep the conversation flowing, still no pressure.
Do you want a drink? Happy to recommend something. This one’s popular. This one’s a bit punchy, depends what you’re into.
And you say yes to something small. Yeah, go on then. I’ll try that. (It's a wine for me, red pleeeaase ,one ice cube, yesss shhhh IYKYK 🍷)
That’s the offer. Tasty. Tiny. Easy. Low risk. Human.
And here’s the bit people often forget… once you’ve said yes once, it’s easier to say yes again.
⬆ MICRO-COMMITMENT (TINY YES, BIG DEAL)
You sit down. You relax. You enjoy it. You chat to the people next to you. You’re not trying. You’re just there. It starts to feel familiar. Comfortable. Like you belong without having to earn it.
So what happens next? You come back. You tell your mates. We found this great little bar. It’s really epic. You’d love it. It becomes your place. Your regular. Somewhere you can turn up as you are.
⬆ CONNECTION (AKA THIS FEELS LIKE MY PLACE)
THE BACKROOM BIT (THE IMPORTANT BIT)
And then one night, after a couple of drinks, when you’re comfy and settled, you say something real.
Something you wouldn’t shout across a crowded room. Something a bit wobbly. Or honest. Or celebratory. Or vulnerable. And someone leans in and goes… hey, if you want to talk properly, come through the back.
That’s the Backroom.
It’s not exclusive. It’s not fancy pants. It’s just the space where you can say the things you don’t want to say out loud. Where you can wobble, celebrate. Admit. Be human where the real sh*t gets said.
AND THIS IS THE POINT (DUH, HELLO)
None of this is super duper complicated. It’s just how humans work.
We don’t jump straight into trust. We don’t go from stranger to best mates in one leap.
We slowly edge closer. We test. We feel. We choose.
Content stops us. Conversation keeps us. Connection makes us stay. And safety lets us speak.
That’s it. Mwah…
Just HUMANS doing HUMAN things.
Now tell us… what kinda vibes would stop you as you walk down the high street???
Hey and obvs you are super welcome to join us in the BACKROOM
