Any thoughts on Cold Exposure? Specifically cold plunge pre-work out and the science behind it? It’s kind of been all the hype lately in certain circles. I’ve read Wim-Hof’s book about it and although it’s a bit too Woo-Woo for my taste, it did make a lot of sense and did quote studies behind it. So, I thought I’d give it a try. To her displeasure, I Filled the wife’s huge garden tub with cold water and then added several bags of ice. Did some breathing exercises and eased on in. The first 30 seconds were horrifying hell, but after getting my breath back it wasn’t too bad and I started to feel a bit euphoric. It’s hard to describe, but All my thoughts melted away and all I was, was just me in that moment so to speak. If that makes sense. Anyway I managed to stay in for about 4 minutes. I don’t really understand the mechanism behind it. But I got out, air dried for about 15 to 20 minutes and then went to my home gym for a squat session. I must admit, I felt amazing and full of energy! I was just loading that bar and getting under it like a boss! In fact my planned squat only session turned into a full body workout because I wanted to just keep going. I’ve done this 3 more times since with basically the same experience. So here is what I’m wondering. Was my huge amount of energy just because of a big “fight or flight” cortisol spike? Or are there more advanced mechanisms behind this I don’t understand? Do any of you guys do this and if so did you experience the same effect. Or is this something all the smart people
are already doing and I’m just late to the party? Thanks in advance to anyone that would like to share their thoughts in this area or their experience with this pre-workout hack.
