SORE DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAD A GOOD WORKOUT
This is something I had to learn over the years. People destroy themselves in the gym and wake up the next morning barely able to move thinking... "I had a great workout." But being sore isn't the goal. Progress is the goal. Are you getting stronger? Are you adding reps? Are you adding weight? Is your form improving? Is your body changing? That's what I pay attention to. You can make yourself sore doing a completely new workout every week. But if you're constantly changing exercises and never tracking anything, how do you know you're actually progressing? I would rather see you consistently getting stronger on the same movements than crawling out of the gym every day. Train hard. Track your numbers. Recover. Come back stronger. That's how you progress. Be honest... Do you still judge how good your workout was by how sore you are the next day?
SOMETIMES THE BEST WAY TO MAKE PROGRESS IS TO BACK OFF
This is probably one of the hardest things for people who love training to understand. You don't have to go 100% all the time. After 12 weeks of pushing hard, progressing my weights, and training with intensity, I take a deload week. That doesn't mean I stop training. I still go to the gym. I just reduce the weight and volume, take out the drop sets, and stay away from failure. Why? Because your muscles aren't the only thing taking a beating. Your joints, nervous system, sleep, motivation, and overall recovery matter too. Sometimes your body needs a chance to catch up with the work you've been putting in. Recovery isn't being lazy. It's part of the program. And sometimes doing LESS for a week is exactly what you need to come back and do MORE. Be honest... Have you ever intentionally taken a deload week, or do you just keep pushing until your body forces you to take a break?
