Social Security Survivor Benefit Question
I’m 62 and my wife is 70. She had delayed SS until 70. Her delayed SS amount is just short of my expected FRA amount.
My question, can I take my SS at 62.5 years and should she die after I am 67, would I be entitled to her current delayed payment amount? If she dies prior to my 67th birthday, I can continue my SS until 67 then switch to her current full delayed benefit?
In other words, does my filing early impact the survivor benefit; as long as I am willing to wait until 67 to switch to the survivor benefit versus my own benefit? Thank you Rich.
