There has been some discussion in WhatsApp following today’s meditation as to who preferred the lyrics in the song playing, and who did not. I did a little bit of research and this is what I found:
The effectiveness of meditation depends more on:
• consistency
• comfort with the format
• level of experience
• specific goal
-rather than the the audio style.
The goal of the meditation matters as much as the format. Different goals often benefit from different styles:
Goal + Likely Best Format:
Learning meditation: Voice-guided
Anxiety reduction: Voice or music
Falling asleep: Music or voice + music
Deep mindfulness: Silence or minimal voice
Emotional processing:Voice guided
Creativity: Music only
Focus: Music only
Based on scientific research evidence:
• No single format is universally superior.
• Guided voice is usually best for beginners.
• Music-only is just as effective for relaxation.
• Voice + music works well for many people—but not all.
• Personal preference strongly influences outcomes.
