Fall Outages - where are you headed?
Just curious to see where everyone is headed this fall outage season. I realize things can change last minute, but I’m curious where everyone is headed and if I’ll be working along side anyone new??? My answer is in the comments 😊

@Lyndsey Kratzner Yeah, I have been in touch with her, but she's still waiting for some information regarding those two outages. Although honestly, I have no preferences about which outages I work at this point, so I think I'll let her know that I'm willing to work anywhere there is a need or availability for junior RP. Thanks for the tips and encouragement!

@Michael Williams I figured it may be tough it in the beginning to get a foothold, but luckily I'm financially secure at the moment and I'm in it for the long haul, so I'll be able to weather this stretch. If I may ask, what streams of income are contributing to that 180k figure? Is that primarily from working on a long term project?
Congrats to my fellow RP summer training graduates!
The first June class just concluded and I met a bunch of fellow Grid users there. Looks like we all passed and have become Task Qualified RP's! Feels good to finally achieve it after finding out about this job and pursuing it for around a year, including doing a full spring season of Decon edit: tips if you have a later class make sure you received 6 reach360 learning modules for rp 1-7 (5 will be missing as we don't do it yet). these are not really "classes", its more like you show up, review a module for up to an hour with Sharon, and then boom you're taking the test. it will be very hard to pass if you just show up without having thoroughly studied the reach360 lessons

Congrats to you and the June 1 training week crew! I hope to join y'all soon, I'll be taking my NISP exams and STEs July 20.
How did we get here?
Hey everyone! I’m just curious to know how everyone stumbled onto this field in the first place? I was in Reddit and saw Michael’s post on the money subreddit. I’m pretty sure I was on lunch at work and couldn’t believe the amount of money that could be made and the amount of time that could be taken off. I’m at a dead end job that is barely getting me by, and I’m fortunate enough to have my house paid off. So finding his post on that Reddit thread has wildly changed the trajectory of my life (as long as things go as planned anyway lol.) Please share your experience if you have the time!

@Michael Weis Same for me, I was actually looking into radiologic technologist careers (ie, xray, mri, etc, techs), late last Fall. I used the search term "rad tech", which by happenstance pulled up one of Michael's posts on r/GoNuclear, and sent me down the nuclear power/radiation protection rabbit hole. One thing led to another and now I'm here, passed the FUN1, prepping for the NISP/STE training week, and trying to get into a new RP tech outage career for this Fall.
Passed the FUN1 today .
Slotted to do the NISP classes in the 1st. I know at least one other person from here was in the test with me. I didnt get to talk to everyone in my class. But if anyone else here was in our group in here congrats!

@Adam Steinmann Good questions, also how were you notified of your grade? Were you graded on the spot or notified afterward?
Just talked to Westinghouse Recruiter
Hey everyone, I got ahold of Tricia today from Westinghouse. She was very thorough with explaining the process. She emailed a link to apply for the Decon positions at the Westinghouse site that cannot be accessed by just visiting their website. I was told to pick outages I’d be most interested in and send them to her which I’m about to do. She said they will begin their full staffing process next week. She explained they take people's wish lists and sends the plant the resumes that come with the application. I’m excited to get into the field! I was falling back into the pattern of just going to work and coming home, and not actively pursuing this career move. I’m happy I decided to call today 🙂 I took a photo of the outage list and asked chat GPT to coordinate what would be the best outages that go along with my goals, and it did pretty good for the most part, but there is a bit of overlap in between these outages. Can I leave one early, or start one later? I don’t know how that’s viewed in the nuclear world. @Michael Williams you probably have a good idea on how this works? Have a great day everyone

Hey Matloc, are you also training for RP tech for the fall season or are you strictly pursuing decon?
