the first timer Decon experience (Westinghouse, Duke Energy)
I work at the Brunswick plant, 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts, so I'll touch on the major points. After accepting the offer letter, a week or so later I received multiple emails with the same message containing my report date to King's Mountain in NC, where their training center is. At King's, it was a full week of a large amount of computer based training, along with a few actual classroom trainings. A few people seemed to have trouble completing the computer trainings, but most finished quickly. During this time, they're also working on the final steps of your background check so they can issue you a Duke security badge to gain access to Brunswick. Once you've completed all training and you finally obtain your badge, you have to report to Brunswick early the next morning, a 5 hour drive. The first day at the actual plant, you'll first report to a separate education center and go through some onboarding, before heading off to the actual plant with your fellow new arrivals. The education center assigned a veteran worker who's worked at Brunswick before to serve as a guide for me and the others to escort us to parking, and the various admin buildings we needed to go to for further plant checking in. Eventually I reported to the RP/Decon building nicknamed the 'Spa' and checked in at the front desk. There's various departments for decon's and RP's to actually work in, and the front desk assigned me to the Drywell dept. There are other departments such as refuel, general purpose (BOB?), reactor. Everyday I arrive by 6am to the Drywell briefing room for a morning safety brief and general info brief with my fellow Drywell decons and RP's, and afterwards head to our break room. If you're not working, you will generally always be expected to be in the break room and be available. I usually head to breakfast after the morning brief. From what the veteran workers here tell me, Brunswick's cafeteria is actually considered to be the best of all the Duke Energy plants in the area (which are Brunswick, McGuire, Catawba, and Oconee). It serves typical breakfast food like scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits & gravy, hashbrowns. The default meal costs 8 bucks and change, but you can ask for extra eggs or whatever for increased cost. Lunch always has burgers and fries available, along with a rotating menu of healthier food such as grilled chicken with various vegetables.

@Trent Almeida i’ll study for the nisps here but sounds like i gotta wait for the summer classes anyway. at this plant at least, there’s no surprises the routine is pretty static each day

@Adam Steinmann yea cause it’s 12 hour shifts but only actually do 3-5 hours of actual work. I used the remaining time of sitting in the break room to just study on a tablet I brought. I’d say the reach 360 elearning they send is definitely the best thing to study
Quelling concerns about RP in fall
I spoke to Joey at Westinghouse today about doing the week of testing and he said that they may end up starting early in June because they have a lot of people in the queue this year. So they’re potentially doing June, July, and August. I asked him if it was going to be hard to place that many people in the fall if they all passed and were jr RP at the same time and he said that they usually have a 50-75 person attrition rate due to the RPs taking permanent positions either with the plants they’re working at or with the Department of Energy, so he wasn’t worried at all. This was something that I’ve been worried about so just thought I’d share in case anyone else was feeling the same as me.

Very appreciated news! Sounds like everyone that wants to be RP will have their chance this year without worry about lack of space. Just need to study well.
Got the offer letter for Jr. Decon
While Joey was the first recruiter I spoke with, I haven't been able to reach him again. I was able to speak with Tricia on her direct line multiple times in the past few weeks and received the offer letter today. Thanks to her I will be working Brunswick and McGuire back to back around the start of Feb as decon, hopefully working my way towards Jr. RP Tech. Yes, keep calling the recruiters, they're crazy busy and it can take a large amount of calls (I called multiple times a day) but thank them for taking your call when they get a chance to do so. @Michael Williams thanks for getting me started on this new chapter in my life, this all started when I read your reddit post a while ago.

Jr RP Task Qualifications Training
After taking the first exam I was given access to begin studying for the second set of courses. I have emailed the training contact at WH and haven’t gotten a response. Anyone in here completed the Jr. RP program through WH recently?? I have a couple questions and would love to know if anyone has the answer - 1. Are we expected to complete the course work for the second set of courses BEFORE the 1 week training? Quizzes and all? 2. Have you received any info from WH with further details about the training? Thanks in advance!

It's odd, I received the first set of e-training around the first week of this month and completed it. Sharon said I could test on Jan 7 but you may remember I never got a hold of anyone and never tested for Fun1. I received the Jr RP Task Qual training and the Fundamentals for JR RP Tech Review this week. I haven't received any actual communication at all
Secured
Today, I received my offer for the Brunswick Plant in South Port, NC. This will be my first outage as a Junior Decon. I plan to work this outage to get my foot in the door, take my tests this summer and doing my 2nd & 3rd outage this fall as a Junior RP. I manage to get my brother in as well so we will be doing outages together to cut cost.
