1st Outage-New to Nuke prep List
This covers the basics- if there is anything I may be missing let me know so the newbies getting in have everything they need beforehand. Of course this is a whole new world so it is impossible to add everything you will need to know along the way but this should be most of the upfront info needed. Considering making a video at the plant I am currently working at as RP to showcase a lot of the similar visuals you will see during an outage. If this is something you would find of value let me know and I will post it in here.

@Michael Williams At Watts Bar I had to provide my own scrubs. They do have some in case you get contaminated and need to change, but the expectation for all contract RPs was to provide your own scrubs. A lot of the house techs and Sr RPs wore scrub bottoms and tshirts. Just something to add to your list.
How many hours to be a Sr RP
So I’m here in Chattanooga this week getting the last of my NISP/STEs done in order to be a fully qualified Jr and I asked Annette (she works with Sharon on trainings) to explain the whole hours thing to me. 3.1a Sr at 2000 hours and more tests 18.1 ANSI qualified Sr at 4000 hours, but no tests 3.1 ANSI Sr at 6000 hours, but no tests We will have yearly continuing ed we have to do to stay qualified. She said that some plants won’t recognize 3.1a seniors as seniors and require the 18.1 Sr with 4000 hours. That the 3.1a is a newish thing and part of it has to do with $$. She explained more but honestly that’s what I can recall, since I was focused on studying for my STE.

@Michael Williams good to know
Fall Outages - where are you headed?
Just curious to see where everyone is headed this fall outage season. I realize things can change last minute, but I’m curious where everyone is headed and if I’ll be working along side anyone new??? My answer is in the comments 😊

@Zackary Rucker you have to talk to a recruiter. So if Tricia is the recruiter assigned to McGuire and Millstone that’s your contact. You, unfortunately, have to keep calling and hopefully get her on the phone, but even if they say they’re putting you on the list it doesn’t necessarily mean you for sure are working there. The first season is hard, you have zero relationship with a recruiter or a plant, and so they are just taking a chance you will show up and be a good worker. I got assigned to Calvert and was told I also was going to Limerick, but then Limerick cut their scope of work and I lucked into getting an offer for Watt’s Bar. I made sure I was at my best everyday because I wanted to impress SOMEONE so I would have a better chance to get on fall lists. Being brand new stinks at first, especially if your financial situation depends on your outage income. Just keep reaching out to the recruiters via phone and email. Send them your resume and let them know your quals, and ask what plants have openings. You may not get your preferred plants at first; being able to travel anywhere is a huge plus if you are willing. Good luck!

Advice from Vets on Picking First Outage
This is a message for the vets. I'm new and believe I'm ready for the FUN1, so will be scheduling soon. My question is how would you all pick your first outage, knowing what you know now? For instance, if you are new, would you pick BWR or PWR? Are some plants just more enjoyable than others? Is lodging easier to deal with at some vs others? Etc. Just want to know, hindsight being 20/20, what you'd do for your first outage if you could do it all over? Thank you in advance!

@Adam Steinmann interesting. I am definitely going to ask Sharon about it. A Jr. at Watts Bar took his Sr quals like the day before our last night there and I swear he said 4000 hours. I even wrote it down. But I’m not perfect so there’s a good chance I got it wrong. Thanks for the info.

@Adam Steinmann Oh for sure! I would be thrilled to be a Sr in one year! That would be awesome!
Outage Tracker - Need critiques
Good morning to all. Yesterday I built an outage tracker with info on grid stays, plant specific info, green means offline and contractor work needed. Red means online and no contractor work needed. Yellow means soon to be outage as in next season or coming soon. The data is not all correct yet as you will find out when you check this out but I would like critiques to see how you all feel about layout, UI, idea, and what other information or use cases you want to see in here. Data will be accurate once this is no longer in beta. Plant location and name are all correct. Let me know! https://grid-map-preview.netlify.app/

I like it. It’s easy to understand, visually pleasing, and it seems to be really thorough. I’ll be interested to see it fully functional.
