Does your business give back?
One thing I don’t hear talked about enough as a business owner is giving while you’re building. Not when everything is figured out. Not when it’s easy. But right in the middle of growth, uncertainty, and learning as you go. I believe how we give as business owners matters. Sometimes it’s money. Sometimes it’s products. Sometimes it’s time, skills, or simply showing up with care when it’s needed most. I’ve been thinking a lot about what giving looks like when you’re running a small business and still want your work to mean something beyond sales numbers. So I’m curious… How do you like to give back through your business? What feels aligned for you right now? Right now, I’m using the overstock of my mental health journals to support educators in Minnesota by donating one journal for every product purchased. If you want to help support educators and be part of their rope, here’s my Amazon store: http://www.amazon.com/stores/BurnBrightNotOut/page/0E39F665-17BF-4E99-BC15-CA8E42CECA71 I sent 200 last week and decided I wanted to figure out how to send more, and this is what I came up with. You see, an educator in Minnesota shared a story with me that I cannot shake. His superintendent described this moment like a blizzard. When blizzards hit Minnesota farms, families would tie a rope from the house to the barn so they could find their way back when visibility disappeared. The rope was survival. Right now, many students and educators feel they lack a rope. Fear and stress are showing up inside school buildings. In hallways. In classrooms. Inside the bodies of children who are supposed to be learning, not carrying adult-sized worry. Educators are being asked to hold all of this while still teaching, caring, and creating a sense of normalcy. And they keep showing up. I cannot fix everything educators are carrying, but I can act where I have agency. I’d love to hear what giving looks like for you and your business. 👇🏼
